I watched the Final Cut first, and it's hands-down better than the US Theatrical Version, which I watched second, with the dumb Harrison voice-overs and sappy ending. The Final Cut really is a masterpiece of late-20th century American art.

It's really too bad that for most people they've seen a crappier version of the movie before the Final Cut. I'm fortunate enough to view the Final Cut as my first ever viewing of the film.

Just had to get that out of my system. I know this is a love it/hate it movie, but count me as someone who now loves it. Classic for sure.

I agree with everything you said except for saying some elements are not of "Oscar Material". It's not a BS "Hollywoodized" movie, and thats what makes it a damn good movie. This movie is beyond Oscar material.

The Final Cut is the best cut for sure. The Director's Cut is the next best, then followed by the International Cut, then lastly, the Theatrical Cut. There's really no large differences between the Final Cut and the Director's Cut (besides the remastering of-coarse). Very subtle and minor stuff, which will not affect the viewing experience of first time watchers. However, both are much more recommended than the International and Theatrical Cut.

The Theatrical/International cut is good for the fans who want to squeeze out as much Blade Runner Material as possible.

With that being said, I hated it the first time I saw it. I kept watching it, and now I've seen it roughly 30 times. I know every line in the movie. I can even play some Vangelis songs on the piano.

Is the Final Cut really that much better? I have seen the theater version a handful of times and have always thought it was just ok. I've always felt it was good, but not worth owning. Will the final cut change my mind?

Most likely not. Apart from the removal of the narration (which took quite some time for me to get used to), the changes are pretty subtle.

However some of us LOVE the movie. When I get around to ordering the BD version, it'll be the fifth time I've bought it. (LD, VHS, DVD Director's Cut and Final Cut)

The only movie I've ever seen where the Director's Cut was a significant improvement was Dark City. The DC of Donnie Darko weakened it a bit, IMO.

That was significant. I used to think that was just an average movie too, but now it's one of my favorites. Rented it about a month ago, bought the next day, and have watched it six times since. Truly amazing.

Oh, I liked it from the start. I was just amazed at how much better the DC was.

This is a a great film that looks and sounds absolutely wonderful in Blu-ray form. It is Reference quality.

You are right that it is beyond Oscar material, but many people just have an issue with sci-fi and cerebral sci-fi just never clicks for them.

The people who dislike this movie fail to realize that it isn't about the action per se, but the fact that the nature of the AI replicants allows us to get a much deeper insight into what it really means to be human. Rutger Hauer's speech to Deckert at the end is brilliant. It's definitive. It goes to the heart of free will and "soul".

But ignorant folks just see "robot" beep-boop-beep.

I've have friends who said they didn't like Gattaca because they aren't into sci-fi. I just stare at them blankly. As if the movie is even sci-fi. The science is only a vehicle by which to tell a humanistic tale.

And that's the sign of a "great" movie, compared to a good movie, or an entertaining movie. Like Platoon - it's a "war" movie, but really the themes are about good and evil, redemption, and lost innocence. Same with No Country For Old Men. It's about a lot more than what is on the surface. And with Blade Runner - it's about what makes us human.

Welcome ! Just like the ORIGINAL Planet of the Apes ! A well thought out look at man and the way man views not only himself but all that surrounds him.

I like that "stare at them blankly" Sometimes you just have to shake your head and walk away !

Once I Sunshine and my girlfriend didn't want to see it, because it has "sci-fi" elements in it.
I convinced her to see it and she was blown away, it's one of her fav' movies now.

My favorite movie of all time. My first viewing of it was an unrated edition with voiceover on VHS sometime back in the 80's. I have been in love with this movie since then, hence the use of the name and my avatar.

There is sci-fi and there is sci-fi. Blade Runner is the latter. Some people think sci-fi is robots, laser guns and spaceships (Star Wars, Buck Rodgers, Battlestar)

When a movie comes along that is based in a futuristic world and has a tale to tell it is lost on some people. But, if someone doesn't like Dune, Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek:The Motion Picture or Blade Runner they probably will never change their mind and be able to see them for what they are. Good Stories.

Blade Runner (with the voice over) is the best film-noir movie ever made. Slimy cops (Bryant and Gaff are great), mysterious woman caught up in the mix, super-cool bad guy, even cooler bum-drunk-detective-hero, really don't know how to describe Deckard.

Love when movies can't be pigeon-holed. Alien, great horror movie.

I have been waiting for "Blade Runner" to go down in price. I remember a year or maybe even more than that....Amazon had a great sale and had it for $12.99 for a short time.

But now that I want to purchase it...it's shot back up at Amazon, Tower, etc.

what you said was quite interesting,even though i dont agree with what you said,i ve always thought the film never elaborated enough on the nature of the AI replicants,maybe a re-make could?

The Blade Runner Blu-ray release includes remastered theatrical US and UK editions, Final cut, Workprint, Director's cut, everything is there. The restoration is beautiful (BU-TE-FUL); for an older movie to be available at this level of quality (sound and picture) is nothing short of amazing. It also has 5 discs in a case that is just a bit bigger than a normal Blu case.

And I hate it!

I've been spoiled, and realize perfection IS possible. Blade Runner has ruined me. If Alien doesn't get the same treatment or Star Wars (originals) I will be furious. Even some newer movies made in the last 5 years don't look as good as Blade Runner. Blade Runner on Blu is one of the reasons I refuse to buy Batman Begins on Blu.

Will Gladiator get a similar treatment, with theatrical and extened cuts in 1080p on 2 seperate discs. Hope so.

Blade Runner deserves 5 out of 5 for sound, audio and if you are a fan like me for the movie too. And of course extras. And it is only 25 dollars. How could someone pay 26 dollars for a film like Marley and Me and not have this in their collection.
