Looking at the NZFC site, I'd be happy to see Arrow acquire the following for the UK market if possible:

Sleeping Dogs
Smash Palace
Utu
The Quiet Earth
The Navigator
Once Were Warriors
Beyond Reasonable Doubt
Goodbye Pork Pie
The Scarecrow
The Lost Tribe
Shaker Run
Kingpin

I guess the NZFC might be willing to play ball if they went for a larger package of titles.

EDIT: Just saw your post Yami, seems the situation is a bit more complex but nevertheless I guess most of the titles on this list would be available to them in theory. I see they've been hawking the package around for almost 2.5 years, and it doesn't appear anyone in the UK has taken up the deal, so maybe they'll be open to smaller deals eventually?

I suggested Sleeping Dogs when they posted that teaser picture of a dog recently. Looks like it'd be an ideal Arrow Video title!

A dystopian thriller set in New Zealand and starring Sam Neill, with a cameo from Warren Oates? Yes please!

I'd be happy with any NZ stuff though, but a little concerned they're ignoring Ozploitation. Was hoping for more of that from them after Dead-End Drive-In. Long Weekend and Turkey Shoot would be a good start, for example.

The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith and that exploitation movie with the woman tied to the front of the jeep (I forget its name - Fair Game?) would both be good.

I do hope so, but you never know with these things. Best to remain optimistic though!

Some of them, like the Vincent Wards, are on iTunes (and other VOD services?)

I haven't got it, but there is a good Aus release of Long Weekend here:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Long-...lu-ray/165896/

Jimmy Blacksmith is an incredible film by Fred Schepisi: I've got the 2 disc Umbrella DVD, and that is stacked - but an Arrow blu-ray release would be fantastic.

[Show spoiler](I've been away: any news on an Arrow sale at all?)

Cat O'Nine Tails is one of my favorite gialli so I'm very happy it's getting an upgrade.

Well, thank god for a new version of Bird, I can retire the nasty cheap US disc that turns into a mass of pixels during the fog scenes!!

I have only watched Cat o'Nine Tails once, and I really didn't like it one bit. I found it dull and I had zero investment in the main character (maybe cause he didn't have a Suzy Kendall to humanize him). I LOVE Bird with the Crystal Plumage. Should I be giving it more chances because it's of a piece with it, or are there other people in the same boat?

re. NZ films there is also an off the shelf new 4K restoration of DESPERATE REMEDIES that premiered recently.

Given Arrow fondness for Ken Russell it would be a good fit for them.

Have you heard of Umbrella Entertainment?. They are an Australian company and have released a few Ozplotation titles on Blu ray. Long Weekend, Road Games, Body Melt and Razorback have been released by them.

With the title Property is No Longer a Theft now being stated on Arrow's UK website as 'in stock', it should start shipping directly from them tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday. Hope that's the case, as it's one of the forthcoming titles I've been looking forward to for a while.

It's not a giallo, more a black comedy, but Petri is a great, great director. Morricone does the score, and Daria Nicolodi pops up among the cast. If they can swing it, Arrow need to tackle Petri's ILLUSTRIOUS CORPSES someday. That's also not a giallo, but it's much closer in terms of story and atmosphere (murders covering up a wide ranging political conspiracy) and the cast is loaded with giallo personnel. EUROPEAN TRASH CINEMA editor Craig Ledbetter raved about the movie when a friend and I sent him an SBS recording of it in the 90's. Two reviews of PROPERTY are linked below, the first from a trash fan's perspective, the second from the artier Senses of Cinema page. I'm reprinting a funny quote from the former.

Quote:
Technically there isn’t anything that can possibly be faulted. There’s another superb Morricone soundtrack and Petri uses the sets and locations with his customary zeal. He creates such a lush visual landscape that you can easily forget that you’re being intellectually hectored. The performances are all eminently capable (particularly Scaccia and a surprisingly straight turn from comedy star Ugo Tognazzi).

A couple of other things need to be mentioned. Considering that this wasn’t an exploitation film, there is an awful lot of strange sexual hi-jinx – nipple tweaking, voyeurism, porn cinema handjobs, attempted rape – going on for a 1973 film. Daria Nicolodi features in most of these and is happily decked out, for most of the running time, in a skirt that’s short enough to show her knickers. She would go on to contribute to the script for Dario Argento’s Suspiria (77), which also featured Bucci as a blind piano player who has his throat ripped out by his guide dog. There’s also a fun sequence in which the butcher and Luisa visit a security showroom in which the impregnability of the goods are demonstrated by having a body-stocking clad cat-thief attempt to break into the ‘Diabolik proof doors’.

Arrow also need to release the 4K scan of Petri's Todo Modo, and it's an absolute crime that A Quiet Place in the Country isn't available in HD.

I need to pick up this collection of Petri's writings:

Writings on Cinema and Life
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Writings-Ci...inema+and+Life

Quote:
Italian writer/director Elio Petri (1929-1982) is of the cinematic era of Pasolini, Bertolucci, and Bellocchio, and although he is recognized by film scholars as one of the major figures of Italian cinema, his work remains largely unknown outside of Italy. Hardly a marginal figure, Petri began as an assistant to Giuseppe De Santis and his future collaborators would include many of the most renowned film artists of the 20th century: Marcello Mastroianni, Gian Maria Volonté, Dante Ferretti, Ennio Morricone, Ugo Pirro, and Tonino Guerra. Due to Petri's belief that culture is inextricable from political struggle, he was a central figure in the fervent debates of his time on both Italian cinema and culture that arose from the aftermath of World War II to the 1980s. However, while generally characterized as a political filmmaker, this view is limited and reductive, for Petri's films are polemical interrogations of social, religious, and political phenomena as well as acute analyses of moral, psychological, and existential crises. His cinema is also informed by a rich and profound understanding of and engagement with literature, philosophy, psychology, and art, evident for instance in his adaptations of Sciascia's novels, Miller's The American Clock (for the stage), and Sartre's Dirty Hands, as well as in his use of Pop and Abstract Art in The Tenth Victim, A Quiet Place in the Country, and other films. Available for the first time in English, Writings on Cinema and Life is a collection of texts Petri originally published mainly in French and Italian journals. Also included are several art reviews, as well as Petri's essay on Sartre's Dirty Hands, a text forgotten until recently. Petri's affinity for subtle analysis is evident in his clear and precise writing style, which utilizes concrete concepts and observations, cinematographic references, and ideas drawn from literature, philosophy, and psychoanalysis. There is as well an acute and scathing sense of humor that permeates many of the texts. Petri was the recipient of the Palme d'Or, an Academy Award, and the Edgar Allan Poe award among many others, and in 2005 he was the subject of the documentary Elio Petri: Appunti Su Un Autore. This collection of Petri's writings is an important contribution to the history of cinema and offers further insight into the work, thought, and beliefs of one of cinema's most ambitious and innovative practitioners.

Had recently thought about asking Arrow something about their UK-only boxset of the Phantasm films. Specifically, what masters are being used for the second, third and fourth films in the series. It's a tall ask, but I'm hoping the workprint of Phantasm II can be included. If the set dosen't get delayed (I hope it doesn't, although I wouldn't be shocked if it did get delayed. On the other hand, like with any upcoming title, if it makes the title the best it can be, then it can only be a good thing), then I would expect the finalised list of specifications and extras/bonus features to be announced in the next two to three weeks. I'm excited about this Arrow boxset.
