I love me some Scream slipcovers! It's not a deal breaker though if I don't get one with a film because I didn't order it right around the time it was released. I just like knowing that I got the full package of what was released, without it, I feel like a little something is missing, but I've never hunted down a missing slipcover (and currently have all of Scream's because I love their output and generally buy them within a couple of months of their releases).

For films that have the same art on both the slip and underneath, it's not nearly as big of a deal for me, but I generally really have loved most of Scream's new artwork (there's definitely been a few misses on this front for sure though), so it's a nice bonus to make sure I order in time to get the slip.

Not because I keep them, but because I wait until I have between 20-30 of them and sell them on eBay.

Always make a good bit of cash on them.

Really happy about the Shout March Madness sale. Managed to preorder all the Scream/Shout Select titles I want between now and June. Except Pink Panther. . . held off on that for now.

Got 29 things coming my way now. . . what an idiot.

Scream Factory's Army of Darkness 4K restoration has been degrained as opposed to the German Koch Media release. Yeah, 4K and degrained in the same sentence.

caps-a-holic comparisons

I've checked several cap comparisons here, and, from what I'm seeing, the differences between the discs are negligible at best. I probably wouldn't notice any difference while watching them in motion.

TBH I'd rather have booklets over Slipcovers or Steelbooks. Proper encodes too without DNR/EE and color timing screw-ups.

I feel like Scream Factory could press a solid gold disc in solid Gold Packaging and give the release away for Free and folks would complain about the weight of the package. If there was ever a comparison that is representative of why folks outside of the members here, dislike this forum so much, and why people like Cliff no longer comment here at all, it's because of the non-issues like the ones you've posted here.

Scream Factory have released problematic transfers in the past, however this is not one of those situations. Presenting these transfers as anything less than essentially identical is a waste of time as the difference is so miniscule that no one will notice in real use situations.

I just have to say...

I'm so glad I'm not someone who sees that screenshot comparison and runs for the hills.

I couldn't care less about an infinitesimal shifting of grain.

Justify it all you want, sir, but that example right there is a sickness, and I'm not interested in being consumed by it until every little nick and tear and anomaly becomes spoiled milk.

You must be an expert, so I'll leave you to it, good man.

It is one of the very rare times where I am perfectly content being a plebeian with my de-grained 4K restoration from that useless and shoddy production house, Scream Factory.

It's not really your fault so much as perhaps a misinterpretation of intent.

I mean, you're a digital colorist, right? At least I've been assuming you know more than most about what you're talking about... But after the, oh I don't know, 100,000,000th post about DNR, compression artifacts, shoddy Universal masters being given to Shout/Scream, their inadequate facilities, superior international releases, etc. etc.... It all begins to bleed into the same thing.

You decided to include a facepalm in your post, which at least to me, didn't really signal that you desired a conversation as much as quietly relish an opportunity to once again take Scream Factory to task, which would have been absolutely fine (you're entitled, and still are, even now, to express whatever opinion or thought you wish), if the screenshot you had chosen hadn't been so ridiculous. Hahaha! Seriously, dude, all it shows is a shifting of grain/noise on such a minuscule level, and I'm supposed to do what with that?

Face palm? Chuck my Army of Darkness in the bin and start calling for a refund?

Surely you must know that not all of us here are digital colorists. I'm just a lowly teacher, and I come here to share in our collective love of cinema and what comes with it (warts included). Maybe don't just go straight for the jugular. I would have enjoyed at least reading a conversation about what you see as superior (and by a wide margin, I'm assuming)...

Either that, or choose a better screenshot next time.

I actually like your posts and have checked out your website before as well. You have a lot of knowledge and as far as I'm concerned are a pretty well respected guy around here. With that said the differences between the 2 versions of that film are so minor that it's likely that there are more significant/larger variances that occur between 2 identical televisions in a single Companies model line than there are between the 2 releases. I'm not faulting you for directing folks to the website to see the comparisons, however your comments regarding the differences are overstatements of what will inevitably be an otherwise identical release when viewed under real world conditions.

I appreciate you sharing the captures and am happy to see/learn whenever I can. But let's be realistic in our criticisms of Scream Factory here. There are plenty of faults we can point out with Scream Factory releases, but the difference between Army of Darkness releases is not one we should be turning into a discussion on how Scream Factory somehow failed yet again.
