Things I loved about ep#6 ("Paradigm Shift"):
(1) The way it wove the novella "Drive" into the story, as Season 1 did with the novella "The Butcher of Anderson Station". It seemed a good spot to do so, with the theme of this episode seeming to be "technology changes everything". (2) "She's a good person, and I like her, but she's like a sister to me. I mean, don't get me wrong...I'd do her if she'd let me." "I'm glad we had this talk." (3) Avasarala's meeting with Errinwright. I was expecting that after she left, he was going to look down at his lap to see if he'd pissed his pants. (4) It was interesting that they decided to have the battle between the Marines and the [Show spoiler] happen off-screen. Worked well, with that final shot...

Yeah, that final shot was dope
Honestly of all the books, for some reason I remember Caliban's War the least lol. I could not tell you a single thing that happened in it (aside from what happened at the end of this episode), so I'm looking forward to seeing it play out in the show to get a refresher |

Caliban's War was the one where you could play a drinking game and take a shot every time the phrase "cascading failure" was said. It seems like each novel has one of those!
I like how we got to know Bobbie before this battle, and it's a nice bonus that we see she was pretty hungry for battle with earthers, but I certainly wouldn't have complained about seeing more of the action. They did a good job jumping from "that's probably all the protomolecule left" to "oh crap". |

This entire scene could have felt very forced but this line took the cake. It's great how Amos can go from being an unlikable prick to an endearing meathead several times an episode.

That's great news. I've been nervous given that the ratings are still below a million viewers.
This week's "Pyre" was another great episode. The scene where [Show spoiler] was incredibly moving. And with each episode, I find myself becoming more and more impressed with how damn good Steven Strait is as Holden. I couldn't recall ever seeing him in anything before, though in looking up his filmography, I was surprised he was one of the main characters in the series Magic City. While I remember his character, I don't much remember Strait's performance. The only problem with this episode is no Avasarala or Draper, but it looks like we're getting them in spades next week. |

I was beginning to wonder if they were going to skip over Prax's story because it's relatively small and personal even thought it's such a big part of book 2. This was a great step into that storyline. I liked the taste of Amos and Prax's relationship in this episode. The infighting among the belters is well done, too.

This season has been epic. Can hardly wait for the finale this week. I'm thinking about reading the books too, but don't want any spoilers. Question for the book readers: How far can I read without spoiling anything beyond season 2? I know the first two seasons roughly cover books 1 and 2, but they seem to have changed around a few things.

All of the books are very good though so if you wanna read them you should just read them, might even get you more hyped up for the show (there are some things coming that I am very excited to see on screen). |

As of last week's episode, they've gotten about half-way through Book 2. So far the show has been fairly faithful to the books, so reading any further than that point will surely spoil things.
There have been changes, but they are relatively minor. For example, in the book, the Weeping Somnabulist was a ship that Holden and Naomi flew to Ganymede along with the Roci, rather than commandeered by them. The Suputayaporns (the couple who owned the ship in the show), were people that Holden &co. met after landing on Ganymede. Also, Prax didn't leave Ganymede and meet Holden, et al. at Tycho Station. In the book, they met him on Ganymede, and he left with them when they left the moon to go back to Tycho. The search for Prax's daughter Mei was also a lot more involved in the book. Perhaps the biggest difference is that both Avasarala and Bobbie weren't introduced until Book 2, whereas the show brought in the former right from the start, and introduced Bobbie while they were still on Book 1. Well...that and working the novellas "The Butcher of Anderson Station" and "Drive" into the main story. While I confess that I'm not really a spoilerphobe in the first place, I've found that knowing what's to come because I've read all the books to date actually makes the show more enjoyable because I get to see and enjoy the great job they're doing with the adaptation. Plus, there have been a few throwaway lines here and there that foreshadow events in later books. Those lines are meaningless to someone who hasn't read the books, but are like Easter eggs to those of us who have. |
