I think you've heard incorrectly. You should always put several hundred hours on your set before you get it professionally calibrated. It is also a good idea to break-in a new plasma for the first 100-200 hours using either the break-in DVD or by keeping it on full screen with content that does not contain static images (and picture settings all at <50%). This will help minimize the chances/severity of IR later on.
