The 3D is medium to strong in places and there are LOTS of pop-outs. Beasts castle is a wonderland of detail made to be seen in 3D! Like most 3D films this movie used 3D to convey a sense of depth and to immerse the audience in the scenery... from Belle's quaint village sitting on top of the hill standing in contrast to the rolling hills below, to the Beast's castle looking out over a frozen wonderland 3D was used to amazing effect. 3D also helped highlight just how huge, foreboding but also empty the Beasts castle was. 3D helped convey to the audience how isolated and alone the Beast and his house staff are in this giant and once magnificent castle! What set this film apart is how 3D was used in the details. From the carvings, moldings, tapestries, chandeliers and furniture of the castle to the grand staircase, ballroom and library to the very intricate detail of the characters themselves... 3D helped even the smallest, minute details stand out in relief! It was magical and amazing and I've never seen 3D used in that way before!
The costumes, sets and special effects in this movie really transport you to another place and time. The acting, singing and dancing were top notch. And unlike Jungle Book, this movie kept the spirit of the original completely alive while improving on it. The chemistry between Emma Watson and the Beast was excellent and after seeing her in this film I want to marry her! She was so charming, innocent, good, cute and sweet and I can't imagine any other actress would've had the mix of qualities needed to pull this off. I found myself smiling and singing along. I got goosebumps three or four different times and left the theater much happier than when I went in.

I've always wished real life was a musical.... and in my head sometimes it is!
Hi Shaggy,

Not bad for something that's been declared "dead", right?;

If not distributed in the U.S., look for a lot of Americans owning the 3D blue ray when released anyway.

Joe:

I'll grab the Blufans One-Click regardless of the wide release. Maybe Film Arena too but Blufans always gives Disney releases the best treatment (can't wait for Finding Dory)!

Disney has stepped up to the plate lately with nicely done 3D editions of Jungle Book, Dory, the Force Awakens and Rogue One and in my opinion this was the strongest of them all. I bet they come through!

I have to say... the longer Disney stays out of the 4K game the better off 3D fans are! Kudos to them!

I don't think those 4K Iron Man releases from Concorde have any official connection to Disney. I hope not at least!

Neat. Anybody think this is worth watching in 3d?

Never saw it in the theatres but I do like the original and I'm OK with not having Will Smith (plus Jeff Goldblum > Will Smith)

My projector is not too high end so I'm worried dark / dim scenes would look bad, a la Star Trek Beyond which looked awful.

This is just what I'm seeing, but my Target moved and significantly reduced it's 4K area.

I've long suspected the larger '4K locked' area was 'bought' by a 4K retailer group.

That deal is apparently over and my Target knocked it's 4K footprint way down.

My Target also has BvS 4K, ID:R 4K, and Warcraft 4K on sale (all had 3D versions).

It's almost like 4K releases with 3D competition didn't sell well at Target.

Hi Don,

I liked it a lot. Good story, fun popcorn film, great 3D. Maybe those who panned it did not see it in 3D for that really brought the film to life!

I enjoyed Piranha 3D and have watched it several times! It's good fun with a lots of gore and potty humor. It's the kind of movie the Sci-Fi movie ATTEMPTS to make and usually falls short of! (I've pretty much just given up on them!) SPOILER!!!! It takes the questionable honor of being the only film in my collection to show a severed penis in 3D :0

Independence Day 2 is definitely worth a watch! It's entertaining... Typical big-budget special effects-laden Summer popcorn fare. I don't have much of a desire to watch it again but I'm glad it's in my collection. The first movie was so amazing during its time that a sequel was destined to pale in comparison. For me, the 3D is the major selling point and it's used to great effect in places!

There are quite a few dark/dim scenes but there's also a lot of daylight money shots so it should look better than Star Trek Beyond though the 3D is not that much stronger.

Watched Beowulf 3D finally and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! The 3D was strong with loads of depth and looked like it was filmed in 3D as opposed to being post-converted (if it was converted they did a superb job)! Most every scene had multiple layers of depth and 3D was utilized as part of the storytelling. Not only was it used to immerse you into this ancient world by helping to convey the size and length of the banquet hall and the demon's cave but it also helped show how large and grotesque Grendel was and how the demon managed to seduce both kings. Angelina Jolie, enhanced by animation, naked and drenched in gold, was quite a treat in 3D... There were also quite a few pop-outs and they were crisp and effective. The animation was very realistic and after the first 30 minutes or so I completely forgot I was watching animation! Sometimes fine detail can be lost in 3D films but that was not the case in this film. Grendel was TRULY disgusting - from his cloudy eyes to the puss oozing out of various cuts and deformities to the slimy, festering, putrid texture of his skin... all of it made you feel disgusted by this hideous abberation of nature. The Dragon was also amazingly detailed and was a treat to see in 3D!

I think part of the reason I liked it so much was I wasn't expecting to. I purchased this on a whim based on the reviews on this forum and I feel it was an awesome buy. Thanks all!

OK, I'm off today, so I had time to compare Force Awakens 3D to the 2D version.

As you may recall, I was surprised to see a distracting amount of video noise in FA 3D.

Around the 8:00 mark, Poe is thrown to his knees to be interrogated by Ren. "Who talks first?"

Half of Poe's face swarms with video noise and shoulder is also unstable due to noise.

During this scene, the 3D version also has flying embers which are big enough to be confetti.

The 2D version has no obvious video noise or giant flying 3D embers.

Around the 19:00 mark, Rey considers the pawn shop's offer for BB-8. "Droids not for sale."

In the 3D version, Rey's forehead is somewhat noisy. In the 2D version, it's not at all.

Around one hour mark, the crews sits around a table talking to Maz. Shots of Finn have noise.

At this point, the 3D noise is mostly in the backgrounds and is easier to ignore from here on.

If someone could check these scenes on their 3D disc, I would appreciate it.

I like alot of what the 3D version brings (Star Destroyer pop-outs), but the noise is distracting.

I'm not much of a reviewer of quality as I have some issues with one eye that just won't focus well no matter what, glasses, contacts, nothing really works. So I get some ghosting while my wife watches and I know doesn't have the same issue. Either way I do enjoy 3D movies and have over 100.
The last few watched in this order
Passengers
Suicide Squad
Warcraft
Miss Peregrine
Batman v Superman

For me the best looking one was Passengers as I didn't notice much ghosting. I have an Oppo103D and a UDP205. I watched it on the UDP205 on a Sony XBR70850B.

I remember ID Resurgence having notably stronger levels of depth throughout. Mostly medium with some higher medium shoots. Where as star trek was mild until the finale when it became lower to mid medium mostly. Maybe i'm just remembering.

Received:

Fantastic Beasts 3D
September Storm 3D
Planet Earth 2 4K
Mockingjay 1 & 2 3D
The Hole 3D Steelbook

This month feels like Christmas over and over and over! I don't want it to end but if it doesn't I'll be homeless!

Frank: I'll watch The Force Awakens and let you know but it probably won't be until later in the week. I don't notice noise with 3D movies like I do with 2D but I'm curious now!

It took me several months to pull this out of the shrink wrap. I saw it in 2d originally and the story kind of bored me, but I bought the 3d version since everybody says it was great. Well everybody was right! The 3d is magnificent with several pop-outs and makes it into my top ten.
One thing that struck me and I haven't decided whether it was a joke or a mistake, but when they go to the remote site in the mountains, Jake looks at some photographs taped to a glass door. The photographs are also in 3d. Funny.

Got my copies of Fantastic Beasts 3D and September Storm from Amazon today. Watched Beasts (really good 3D at home like it was in the theater). Will probably watch September Storm after work tomorrow.
