Could "softness of the image" be a problem with the French release? Or resolving capacity?
Just viewed Seventh Son 3D Thailand version release and did not pickup on any softness issues. This was my first view of the 3D movie on an OLED UHD passive display giving an intense 3D first impression from the Top Menu, from the motion picture-excerpts, and the real-world dimension continues in intensity throughout the production. Atmosphere of "haze" and "mist" in wooded areas and township scenes resolve naturally and unobtrusively and do not affect the images of people for sharpness or clarity. It does set the mood for the performances. ![]() |

It not only causes softness of images but at times looks like a double pane of glass producing various light anomalies intended to look like you're almost staring at direct sunlight. The 3D effect is compounded by visual discrepancies when the light moves, changing reflections that separate with movement. Last edited by Paul H; 09-01-2016 at 06:52 PM. |

Hey gang,
First time I've run into this. Finally took a gamble on grabbing the Russian version of 7th Son in 3D (loved it in the theatre, including the 3D) through a German seller on ebay. Got it for $20 CAN... opened it up last night and noticed several strange things. 1) No paper insert 2) Square blu-ray case, not a rounded edge one and finally, 3) Turning the disc over, you could see the actual burned layers onto the blu-ray, as if cranked out by a home blu-ray burner, not a high quality manufacturing disc maker. In the end, it played just fine in my Xbox One and as I had hoped, the 3D is great (and even better than at the theatre) on my Epson 2040 projector! But it was tough finding out where to track down a region free disc, and even tougher to find a legit one... anyone else run into this before, with hints on what to look for next time to make sure an import is the real deal? |

After you've seen it, what did you think of the 3D Everret?
I enjoyed most of it, though they could push the 3D more during some dialog shots, and in that scene where Jeff Bridges recruits the son by the lake cottage. Later on, the 3D looks really good. |

Joe, if you try it again, The movie takes awhile to get going, but starts getting a lot better after the first 40 minutes. Did you see the scene with the giant monster chasing them? The 3D is impressive in this one and lots more action and excitement later on.

This is one of the best conversions of that year. I enjoyed the movie and this is one of those rare films that I imported for the 3D, but only having watched it again a fourth time last night, did I really appreciate how well done the 3D is in Seventh Son. Thanks. ![]() |

Meh, I only have seen the 3D Blu-ray twice since it was released here in June of 2015. That goes to show how I feel about this movie.
![]() Special effects and 3D was good but the movie itself was such a disappointment to me, I also hated Bridges in this. I remember getting all hyped up by the trailers, then when the theatrical release got delayed a couple of times it only raised my expectations even more! Then when it was finally released in cinemas it felt like such a letdown. ![]() |

Just to throw in my two cents I don't like the hazy look of the whole movie and it sure does take some getting used to Jeff Bridges talking while he's chewing the scenery but I was impressed with the conversion.
It's a fantasy movie with magic and monsters so the 3D really ramps up the immersion and is the only way to see the movie as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure that pretty much every release outside of Brazil has been confirmed as region-free (and that one is probably region-free too). I have the Hong Kong version myself and this discussion is making me want to re-watch it. ![]() Last edited by the13thman; 03-30-2017 at 11:40 AM. |

![]() I have already mentioned the hazy look in this thread before I think. I have seen the theatrical 3D showing and it was definitely there too. Besides Bridges' performance, I found the movie to be a drag at times, running time could be a little shorter and the story just didn't do it for me. |

Thanks. I do agree, the Seventh Son movie is not very exciting (I wanted to see more at stake with Julianne Moore as the lead Witch, maybe show more of the pending doom she would bring to Ward's immediate family as a consequence of the hero Ward, and Bridges, not defeating her in time, creating more tension), but the action scenes are fun, especially the giant attacking the trio by the waterfall. The 3D layers I'll give a 9/10, with mostly high medium to strong 3D. There are some nice pop outs here too in the strong 3D range. The fog lighting isn't too distracting thankfully, and didn't diminish the 3D much IMO.
It surpassed my 2nd impressions and matched my initial 3D viewing in theaters. The seating angle makes a difference, making sure I was aligned with the screen again and not dozing off. I had to watch it over a few days time and pick up where I left off. Jeff Bridges' character voice is over the top and reminds me of his performance in RIPD 3D, also over the top. I give him credit for trying to be a character actor like Johnny Depp. Not many of them these days. He'll be in the next Kingsman movie. Alicia Vikander will be in the upcoming 2018 Tomb Raider (hopefully in 3D) and she does a decent job in this film as a lead female co star. The main hero, I haven't seen him in any new movies since this. Okay, he's in the Punisher TV series, that's good to see. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Punisher_(TV_series) |

I basically felt it was the same performance in both of those films. Heck, add True Grit too, he stuck with the same garbled accent and performance for all of them haha. So I find it funny that people can hail his performance in True Grit but criticize his performance in RIPD and Seventh Son as an old ornery muffle-mouthed killer badass.

Perhaps I am in the minority, but I thoroughly enjoyed The Seventh Son in 3D. If there is any weak link in the movie, I have to give it to Julianne Moore, who's performance exudes more "cheese" than Sargento. Ben Barnes does a decent job with his character...very likable.
My reaction to Jeff Bridges' performance is also positive. Yes, he sounds like he has a mouthful of marbles, but his eccentric character traits are what I find intriguing and captivating. At times he is unintentionally hilarious. I absolutely love the special effects and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound mix. The creatures, the witches, the battles...it's all top notch excitement. Good music score too. On my system the 3D presentation is exceptional. I cannot watch this movie in 2D because the 3D quality is that much better. I have no complaints about The Seventh Son 3D at all. |
