Germany Mission : Impossible Fallout 3D Blu-ray (2018) [Region Free]

Mission: Impossible - Fallout 3D Blu-ray

Paramount announced at CinemaCon that their sixth Mission: Impossible film, which starts shooting next month, will be shot with IMAX 3D cameras. Presumably by that they mean the same dual-Alexa 65 rig used on Transformers: The Last Knight.

Director Christopher McQuarrie, who helmed the last entry in the series, is returning along with actors Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, and Sean Harris. Henry Cavill is joining the series for the first time. The rest of the cast is yet to be revealed but apparently Jeremy Renner won't be back this time.

The film is set for release on July 27, 2018.

UPDATE JUNE 27, 2018: Though Paramount did in fact make that claim at CinemaCon, director Christopher McQuarrie has since clarified that most of the movie is shot on 35mm film, and that the digital scenes were shot in 2D on the IMAX-edition Alexa 65, with the entire film receiving a 2D-to-3D post conversion.

UPDATE OCTOBER 31, 2024: Turbine in Germany have released the film on REGION FREE 3D Blu-ray

Sounds rad. Always exciting to see another M:I movie shot in IMAX and 3D is a nice addition too. Let's hope this one gets preserved eventually on home media with that IMAX aspect ratio and in 3D.

Thanks UFAlien. That is great 3D news, I agree. Rogue Nation, the last one, was one of my favorites in the series. Filming in Imax 3D of all things, pretty cool to hear. Looking forward to it and I hope they go for strong 3D.

As far as Cruise in The Mummy 2017, Imax listed it as 3D for awhile, but now it's not listed under 3D on their site anymore, so that one's up in the air anyway. It's also from Universal, so that would be an import for US 3D fans no doubt for the blu ray 3D. But that's for another thread.

On topic, I wonder if this will be Cruise's last Mission Impossible or if he'll take the Stallone Expendables route and continue into his 70's. I would like if Stallone made one more Rambo even if he had to use a walker mounted machine gun, but he called it quits for the series.

Why not, film entertainment constantly employs 100lb women to kick everyone's butt. It's just as reasonable that a senior citizen does the same.

Hopefully Paramount doesn't give up on 3D home releases on their blockbusters. ST Beyond was their last and they've cancelled everything since..

Don't get me wrong, huge day one 3D (and M: I) fan here, but a Mission: Impossible movie in 3D? Nah... IMHO some movies should just stay in 2D. Can't imagine a Die Hard or James Bond movie in 3D, same goes for a Mission: Impossible movie...

As long as they are as thoroughly enjoyable as the last two, count me in.

I can imagine them all in 3d and wish they were. Nobody is forced to watch 3d.

I've been longing for more native 3D crime thrillers. I want movies like John Wick and Sicario in 3D. Someone should be able to imagine good story-telling uses for it. The possibilities are whatever you can dream. Sci-fi action conversions have the 3D market right now, as if copious CGI is some sort of prerequisite, and 85% of them do squat with 3D artistically. High hopes for M:I 6 if indeed they are using native 3D IMAX rigs.

Watch The Taking of Tiger Mountain by Tsui Hark if you want a glimpse at how action thrillers can use 3D appropriately. Both Dredd and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For did some good things too but could've had much better 3D roundness overall. The 1950s also gave us multiple excellent examples of stereo noirs.

John Wick I can understand but movies like Sicario should just be "plain old" 2D, 3D just wouldn't suit those kind of movies IMO.

Someone else will have to imagine it for you. Until then...

I haven't seen any of these films since MI 2. But if they actually film this with Imax 3D cameras, they might just have my attention.

It amazes me that this comes so late in the series. I hope it's a solid and successful movie, or it may be portrayed as a tacky attempt to revive interest in an aging franchise. On the other hand it might be just the right film to expand the 3D audience and get people excited about 3D again.

Honestly though, there isn't one genre in which you can't take a story and design it for 3D.

See:
Hugo
Life of Pi
Dial M for Murder
Kiss Me Kate
Inferno
Miss Sadie Thompson
The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet
The Great Gatsby
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk

Very little fighting or explosions happen in these films, but they are great 3D experiences anyway because the filmmakers adapted the cinematography to incorporate the third dimension into the story-telling.

Mission: Impossible 6 would be a cakewalk for anyone looking to design a cool 3D moment. Jump out of an airplane, scale a tall height, have a dust storm, have a car chase, point a gun, point a knife, shoot someone with a sniper rifle, explode a building, lower someone through a hole with a rope, show off European architecture, show off sexy women in evening gowns...

All you have to do is move things back and forth on the Z-axis to make interesting 3D. You can even do this with a monologue alone by having an actor's face get closer and closer to the audience as their dialogue gets more and more intense. A capable stereographer could even design the evening news for 3D if viewers would bother to put on the glasses. It's all about how the story is shot, not what the story is about.

... you know I agree that not every movie needs 3D, but you'd be surprised how well it can work in genres that aren't typically considered for the format. For some of the best examples you have to go back to the 1950s, which just shows what a shame that there haven't been more recent modern films like this.

At present, 3D can seem to be restricted to mega-budget CGI-heavy blockbusters and animated films. Anything else seems to struggle to get on enough 3D screens and secure a decent 3D release.

What excites me about 3D, isn't so much the 'comin at ya' moments, as just the sense of volume and space, and the surfaces and textures. The stuff I love is where you can really perceive the curvature and geometric detail, the sculptural qualities, and get a real sense of things like the roughness of the terrain, or the softness or even delicateness of the subject matter. Although movement along the Z-axis is definitely not to be neglected and very important in any 3D film that hopes to deliver.

A lot of this can all seem so obvious, it can be quite frustrating to find how few filmmakers seem to grasp some of the basics. I often feel they could be giving the audience a substantially better experience.

I agree that if a movie frames each shot carefully with 3D in mind, it could be any genre and succeed as a 3D film. It's a matter of expanding our expectations of what could be in 3D or not. Good points posted above.

With Ghost Protocol, had that been converted into 3D, the scene where Ethan (Cruise) is climbing the world's tallest building with those grip hand gloves could be as impressive as the height depth of The Walk's strong 3D in the last half hour. The view looking down was tremendous.

With Rogue Nation, Ethan being underwater, trying to grab for the lever as he was spinning around, bubbles all around, would be another great 3D shot as he was floating as with Sammy the Turtle 3D (A Turtle's Tale 1 & 2).

Mission Impossible 2 had a lot of stylistic slow motion shots, so those could play well in 3D as well. (MI 1 and 3 were the only two I thought were decent, but not as good as the others (2, 4, 5) based on the story and limited action).

This is great news I just wish they'd done it for the last two. I get that Brad Bird hates 3D (or at least I assume he does as Tomorrowland wasn't in 3D either) but if McQuarrie is a fan why didn't he give us Ghost Protocol in 3D? Oh well at least we're getting this one in 3D. love this franchise and the last one was the best IMO.
