I loved Grindhouse.

I loved that Planet Terror had a "missing reel" where the film jumped 20-30 minutes ahead in time and apparently all kinds of batshit stuff had gone down in the meantime - you never got a hint of what exactly transpired but you knew it was all kinds of mahem and plot development. I've actually experienced that (Parkway Theater, Oakland CA 1999 during a showing of Forbidden Planet) and that little touch really took me back!

But I was very disappointed to get the DVD and find that the "missing reel" was not included as an extra feature or deleted scene. Now I'm thinking they just didn't bother to write that 20-30 minutes. Come on, don't you think people would have bought a "special edition" DVD set with the missing reel scenes included? I do. If it's not in the can already it will never be shot... too many high paid, high quality stars who would have to be re-assembled from whatever projects they are currently working on. Very sad they didn't do this for us.

You're right that the missing reel in Planet Terror was part of the script, and what would have happened in that time frame wasn't meant to be shown. It was supposed to add to the Grindhouse experience.

Tarantino, however, took your approach, and shot the missing reel, which was reinserted into the Extended Cut.
