My copy actually came in the mail today. I enjoyed it for what it was, didn't think it was as strong plot wise as Rio or Megamind, two of my recent favorites, but I did enjoy it. Russell Brand, who I'm a big fan of, was good in his voice role.

I know I am a minority with this opinion, but I watched this with my kids tonight (4,2) and we all liked it. For me it is somewhere in between Despicable Me and Megamind and much better than any of the Chipmunk movies. Whoever thought of Russell Brand in this role was a genius. It did fall a little flat at the end, but it's not like I was expecting Oscar worthy material.

As the starter of this thread, I own both a German BD import of Hop and this 2012 North American BD counterpart. All 2011 Blu-ray counterparts (the German import included) of this title had been released in many countries but the U.S./Canada around the world. Unfortunately, these 2011 versions have less supplemental features, and lack a mini-movie, BD-Live, D-Box Motion Code and Ticker, all of which are included in the NA version. I'll sell the German import, whose technical specs are identical to the UK release, as soon as I've finished the comparison.
The following supplemental items are included in the 2011 BD counterparts: - The World of Hop (containing six featurettes) - All Access with Cody Simpson - Emotion in Motion: The Dance of Ken Daurio - The U-Control function featuring "Hop Tweets" and "Pink Beret Tracker" The "My Scenes" function appears in the main menu. After the Universal Studios logo intro & the language setup "top menu", the following sneak peeks that precede the main menu are: - "You've Got the HDTV" - Blu-ray Disc by Universal (missing in the English menu) - The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Unmissable Movies on DVD and Blu-ray: Barbie Princess Charm SchoolThe following supplemental features are only exclusive in the 2012 NA BD & DVD counterparts: - Phil's Dance Party (an all new mini-movie) - Russell Brand: Being the Bunny - Russell Brand's Kid Crack Ups - Carlos on Carlos: The Premiere According to Carlos - Post Coup Commentary: Carlos & Phil Tell All - Games - BD-Live (BD only) - D-Box Motion Code (BD only) - Ticker (BD only) The "My Scenes" function can be found under "Extras" in the main menu or pop-up menu. The new sneak peeks that precede the main menu: - The Curious George DVD collection - Barbie: A Mermaid Tale 2 - Bring It On: The Musical - Universal Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy/Digital Download/pocketBLU Overview Consider importing the 2012 NA BD edition if you want all supplemental features, but keep in mind that a DVD copy of this title is Region 1 only, and that redeeming a Digital Copy or UltraViolet of the movie is for U.S. and Canadian residents. However, a DC/UV code expired on August 27, 2012. |
