I am praying that Twilight Time gets Toy Soldiers 1991 and not Sony's Choice Collections

Honestly, this announcement almost feels like a taunt. Sony knows this is a beloved 80s classic to many people.

BD-R?

How could you do something like this, build up a little boy's hopes and then smash all his dreams to pieces? You're an inhuman monster!

This is awful. So many titles Sony throwing away on BD-R. Pass.

I can tell you this. This was initially planned as a pressed disc. It was listed on the Sony's press site, about a year ago, and then, after a few delays, dissapered.

The planned extras at the time were: audio commentary with Martha Coolidge and some reunion extra.

I believe they're both newly produced extras, since they weren't on DVD..? Anyway, it will be interesting to see whether they dropped those extras.
Does that mean there will be extras on this release? I know they sometimes stick a commentary on even burnt discs ('Legend of Billie Jean' springs to mind).

Aa a BD and DVD collector I'm glad there's a release, but as others have mentioned, I'm going to pass on this BD-R release. Unlike the recent news of the newest Heat BD release, I'm not sure this release is worth it.

I purchased a Vudu digital copy release a while back along with 9 other DVD films (that didn't have a BD release at all), which I upgraded to a HDX copy (for only $2.50 at the time).

This almost feels like the Blu-ray equivalent of Pyrrhic victory. Yes, one of my favorite 80s teen comedies, one I've been waiting years to come out on Blu-ray, is finally here. But on an overpriced BD-R.

Really hoping Indicator releases this eventually. Hell, I can't be the only one who thinks that Mill Creek would've been a better option than this.

I love this movie, but this is kind of why I don't buy many physical copies anymore. I've owned it on Vudu for a few years now and it only cost me $2.50 to convert my DVD

You know what I actually own this from amazon instant video so I'll probably just stick with that. Never thought I would say that and it kills me to have to say that

I know what you mean. I used to believe I would never forego physical copies for digital. In the end, the overall expense is less. It takes up less space. I'm able to get a lot of movies in HDX that aren't even available on blu ray yet and may never be. I watch my movies on a projector on a 120 inch screen and the quality meets my expectations. Back to the topic and Martha Coolidge, I wish Valley Girl would get a release!

That's a tough one. From what I've read even though they are BD-Rs the transfers and audio are still pretty solid quality while it lasts but Mill Creek has really hit the dumps lately with quality. I think I would have to choose Mill Creek though.

Plus, you'd be paying literally 1/4 of what you'd pay for the BD-R.

I've been wanting to see TOYS for awhile, I just really dislike TT. Movie needs a wider release than that.

Oh my bad I was thinking you didn't like the movie.

Yeah I definitely agree with that. Unfortunately I don't see Sony giving it a wide release other than their choice selection. I haven't had any issues with TT though.

No label on earth is going to get "Toy Soldiers" released into a store. No matter what, you'll have to have it shipped to you from an on-line retailer. So the releases will be the same, the prices will be the same, the hypothetical extras will be the same, the only differences are that Twilight Time will press the disc and that Twilight Time discs retain value better than burned Sony ones.

Considering it takes a while and sales to typically sell out most TT titles, they (and I) disagree. There's no need for more than 3000.

Nope, TT isn't overpriced. They just don't have third party markdowns. That's a BIG difference.

These BD-R's are overpriced only because they aren't a pressed disc. The quality of many of them are top notch, though, aside from Marie Antionette.
