Default Generation Kill is coming out, right? June 16

I remember reading that HBO officially announced they'd release Generation Kill for blu ray the same day as the regular DVD (Dec 16). Nobody has a price for it, nor is anyone taking pre-orders. Does anyone know if it's actually coming out? Did I misread the story with the HBO announcement?

Thanks.
Bryan

Yeah, it supposed to be coming out on Dec. 16, but I started wondering about that when the old Amazon pre-order link for GK in BD now lead to a dead page--for instance, try clicking on "Buy it at Amazon and save" on this page.

Amazon now has a new page for GK in BD, which currently states, "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available." Even more depressing, if you take a look at Best Buy's site, it currently states that it will be released on 6/16/2009. That date, however, might be just their generic guesstimate.

But what about from the source itself, HBO/Warner? The good news is that GK in BD is now up for pre-order on the HBO store website and has been there since last week. The release date is Dec. 16. The bad news is that it's not currently available for pre-order at the Warner Home Video website. It just seems odd that it's available for pre-order at one site but not at the other. Has HBO jumped the gun, or is WHV just slow in updating their site?

Obviously, I don't have a life and I've spent way too much time thinking about this , but that's the current state of affairs. Who knows, things might change tomorrow.

Yeah, you are right. It did get announced, and I thought amazon had it for preorder for a while, but it disappeared. Now it is in a "notify me" state at Amazon

Weird, that old Amazon pre-order link that I said wasn't working is now working again and the newer link is now down. No definite release date is stated. The HBO site, however, still says that it will be released on Dec. 16.

I was debating actually getting this title. See, my brother is in the military and he actually volunteered to go to Afghanistan. Was there for the majority of 07. And when I saw the miniseries in HD on Movie Central, I thought he'd really dig it. But I ended up getting BAND OF BROTHERS for him, since it was on sale at Rogers and decided to just pick it up, since it has some entertainment value to it. While GENERATION KILL is just as good, I think it's a bit dry for my brother. Plus, I'm not sure if he wants to be reminded of that. Don't get me wrong, my brother's not shell shocked or anything. It's just that I think he'd dig BAND OF BROTHERS more.

I've been meaning to check out this show. I love The Wire, not to mention my younger brother has been streaming episodes on his own time and raving about it. Perhaps this release will be the perfect X-Mas present for him, which I can then take advantage of.

Just to past the time until this series is released, I found a pair of USMC forums where Marines themselves (mostly veterans) discuss the series.

usmchangout.com
leatherneck.com

All in all, the opinions are almost all positive. Can't get a better endorsement than that. BTW, anyone who hasn't seen this yet and is expecting another Band of Brothers will probably be disappointed. I would say that the overall tone of the series is closer to the movie Jarhead than BoB.

HBO's site still has it for 12/16/2008 at $79.99 or $79.98... gonna search bestbuy.com and see whats its presently priced at... Best Buy has the Blu-Ray dated for 6/16/09 priced at $89.99... but if there weren't any delays reported I'd expect to see that changed in the coming weeks to match HBO Store

Well, I thought Jarhead was excellent, so that adds to my interest...

Turns out that it's the other way around. The HBO Store website has changed the release date to match the date on Best Buy's site, 6/16/09. I've also noticed that same release date on other sites, before HBO had updated its own site. Strange that HBO.com would be playing catch-up with its own release. Well, I always had a nagging feeling it would be delayed, despite what HBO's site was saying.

Question Generation Kill- Per Amazon...Mine still shipping next week

Something strange is going on here. I pre-ordered this BD title from Amazon.com on back in October. Ive seen the back and forth date changes on Amazon.com and HBO's site.

I decided to check my order status just now with Amazon.com to see what date it shows today. I noticed that if you search for GK to pre-order, it is showing the June 2009 release date...BUT my order status still shows the Dec 16 date and with my shipping preference, a delivery date of Dec 22. I called Amazon.com to find out what they show. I explained all the date changes to the Rep I was speaking with and what my order shows and she said that I will still be getting my order on Dec 22. Then I asked her if I could change my shipping method without it messing up my order. She told me yes and when she went to do the change, she then told me that its warning her that if she changes my shipping method, my new delivery date would be a date in February 5-6, 2009. When I asked her why it went from Dec to Feb and she said it was because it put me at the bottom of the pre-order list. She said those people who pre-ordered it back when it was first announced would definitely be getting it in December.

I don't know how this is gonna work, but she assured me it would be shipping next week. Now I'm really scratching my head. I'll let everyone know if it ships. I dont see how it can or will, but like I said, according to her, it will be.

...No, that's The View.

The Wire was created by David Simon & Ed Burns, whom did Generation Kill. It is one of the greatest TV shows ever.

So, has anyone received a Generation Kill BluRay yet? Amazon still does not have a release date for it, but they do have the standard DVD available for $35 (which is 40% or so off retail).

I agree with everyone who'd rather have The Wire on BluRay. The Wire is a truly great show, easily the world's best TV show. It'd be awesome if they gave it a BluRay release that was better designed than the box that just came out.
