Well, first of all, yes, they are horror films. They belong to a sub-genre of horror. But regardless, I'll never understand why people lump the Saw series in with movies like Hostel. There's a lot more going on in Saw than just torture. There's a huge interwoven backstory and an interesting villain with complex motivations. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's art or even quality film making that everyone has to enjoy. But they're not just graphic scenes of torture strung together for a cheap shock either. Whatever. Just a pet peeve.
