Just cleared up the mystery. Apparently (according to my cousin) some new tv series on Amazon Instant are free but you have to suffer ads to watch. This was a while back but I'm pretty certain they still do this. One of the shows was called 'Fashion Fund'. It had several tv ads scattered throughout.

Vudu has been doing this for a while, they call it Movies On Us. They show short Ads through the Movie. I have watched some, but if you own it there are no Ads. Vudu picks different Movies to do this, and they keep changing them from time to time.

Wouldn't appeal to me at all, even if they were incredibly recent films. I can't be dealing with ads in the middle of my films.

You only get the ads if you watch for free using Movies On Us. If you pay for the rental there are no ads.

I know, it just wouldn't have any appeal at all. The ads would be a massive turn off for me.

I could see someone trying out a movie subscription service.. it would probably have to be $25-30/mo if you were to include new releases every Tuesday. It would be worth it for some people.

Not going to happen on one single movie subscription service. You would have to get all the studios to put their new releases on one subscription service. They all have deals with different services, Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc.. A new digital HD movie release cost $15 to $20 and it's already shown that they sell at that price.

Is he a prime member?

My wife watches Amazon every night and I've never seen a single Ad.

Just looked up Fashion Fund on Amazon and it's not an Amazon Prime show. So it's free with ads for everyone with or without Prime. So no different than going to NBC.com and watching an NBC show with ads.

He gets the one day shipping and the video and music service so that must be a yes, right? I think he pays a one off fee at start of year.

Well, he was certainly using Amazon to watch it. So, in this case Amazon is just a host? Next time I see him, I will ask. I'm pretty sure he has watched several shows with ads.

by the way, this couldn't just be a tablet thing? He watches mostly on his Tv but he uses the Kindle Fire HD otherwise. (He is not into films like me lol)

Its not just new stuff amazon prime has some shows that can only be streamed. Some that can only be streamed with commercials and some that you can stream or download. If you are on an iPad they have a little banner at the top that tells you the rights and restrictions for whatever you are watching.

Some stuff on amazon says free to stream with prime now with commercials. So ya stuff like that exists on amazons prime service its not hidden or anything they will even tell you before the ep starts that it will have commercials.

So you made a statement as fact regarding a scenario your cousin had watching some obscure show. LOL

Well, I wouldn't know as I don't have it. I could only comment on what I saw, which was ads during a Amazon show. People have corrected me and I acknowledge that. That's why I was asking questions.

Yes, Happy Streaming to you, this Tread has slowed down. I was texting this friend up in Portland, OR and asking him about Movies. He use to watch a fair amount of Movies and he would buy and rent. So I asked him if he bought or rented Movies anymore, and watched them on DVD or Blu-ray Player. He said all he does now is watch Amazon, Netflix, or DirectTV. He never buys or rents Discs anymore, and neither does anyone he knows. So the Disc or Digital is going heavy on the Digital HD! It's a One Horse Race and Always Digital is Winning!

So, in other words he doesnt care about film anymore. Not really the guy to ask was he? Sounds like he isn't a collector in the first place. It's like I said, Digital ahead is just going to end up being a niche.
