It is implied if you understand the technical jargon, if that was too complicated, then that's what I included the quote from Rtings that reiterated the exact same point in layman's terms, which you've failed to mention. Enough said. No hard feelings, but it's just that when I read your retorts, I feel like I'm in a sassy sandwich. I guess I only know how to answer sass with even more sass. This is what comes to mind... https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-l.../2868138?snl=1 Last edited by philochs; 05-20-2017 at 03:14 PM. |

Samsung's bread and butter is high-nit displays. If dynamic metadata wasn't the next level HDR, that genuinely improved PQ on all tvs, they wouldn't have worked so hard with 20th Century Fox Studios to build the successor to HDR10, HDR10+so quickly, that's my opinion. Blu-rays and UHD Blu-rays up till now are mastered with a single locked-in luminance level. What dynamic metadata does is opens that up, and allows them to have control of it, scene by scene. I think that's going to really improve PQ. Probably the best, simplest explanation of what dynamic metadata does is in this 2016 NAB demo HDR10 VS HDR10+, found here... https://vimeo.com/164619204 Last edited by philochs; 05-20-2017 at 04:07 PM. |

What's wrong with you last couple of posters, don't you dare start talking about the subject of the thread instead of DV vs HDR10!

New review for this UHD Blu-ray, from Flix 66:
Video: Reviewing new 4K titles usually boils down to: is the film better than the Blu-ray and is the digital transfer sharp, bright, etc. But catalog titles are a different beast because while I always scream that the home video presentation should mimic the director’s vision, sometimes that means a transfer that, on the surface, might appear less than some other transfers. Such is the case with UNFORGIVEN. Supposedly, this transfer was approved by Clint Eastwood, so this is clearly the ideal presentation according to the director himself. But this is not the most pristine transfer you’ll see and I fear some people are going to be disappointed with it because it’s not as crystal clear as some of the newer titles out there. That’s not fair on many levels, but it’s also true because UNFORGIVEN doesn’t look as “bright” as I’m sure people might be hoping. However, it still looks fantastic for a 25 year-old film and I imagine this is the best the film ever will or ever has looked. The vast Western landscapes are slightly more bold than on the Blu-ray and the night scenes seem to have a more refined quality to them. Personally, I think the 4K presentation looks wonderful, but I would caution anyone looking for a reference quality disc to show off to their friends that this is not that disc. http://flix66.com/unforgiven-4k-ultr...lu-ray-review/ |

Not according to this mixer. Dolby Atmos is more easy and he prefers Dolby Atmos.
I don't have a timecode, but Tim Hoogenakker did a lot of remixes for home media. Including John Wick 1 & 2. Just watch the whole show. ![]() |

Just re-viewed my old 2007 UK BD version on my new Sony X800, and it looked and sounded fine to me. There is only a DD soundtrack, but it was originally in Dolby Stereo. Delighted with my new player. At that price you cannot go wrong, I think. Half the price of an 203. I already have a regionfree Oppo 103. Doubt 4K discs will ever be region coded? A bit disappointed that there are no new extras. Actually identical to the 2002 DVD-release. I am sure they could have added something ala Criterion's La Belle et la Bette and others. Don't think I'll be upgrading this one.

been looking at this now that its nightime and in a 100% dark room and damn, the movie is really dark in the night time scenes inside. the resolution is fantastic throughout though and the daytime scenes look incredible!

I only saw it in one other scene. I thoroughly enjoyed the PQ and think it's a worthy upgrade. The good definitely outweighs the bad.

And yet I love several of Clint's films (the later films he has directed like Gran Torino, Mystic River, Sully, etc.). I am contemplating getting this as a blind buy, I assume you all would have no problem recommending this film?

Honestly guys, HDR allows a director to tune a lot more. This is the Wild West! It's supposed to be dark as hell in the night. This is how the West was in many places. This isn't Vegas people!
I for one welcome natural lighting. And I think we can all cool down and just wait for what they have in store. In other news The Fifth Element went on presale! Too bad they want 30 for all of these new discs. |
