I just got an LG multi-region blu-ray/DVD player from 220 Electronics. Definitely the easiest way to go region free for blu-rays.
In terms of multi-region players not lasting long, from my experience it depends on machine. I had a Samsung DVD that I hacked myself and it failed the same day. I have two Philips DVD players that I hacked myself and they have been working for at least 10 years. I should point out that I only use them for region 2 dvds. PAL frame rate is slightly faster than NTSC. I always wondered if PAL dvds have to spin slightly faster than NTSC and if that could hurt the players having to switch between the two speeds. No science, just a thought...of course blu-ray may be completely different since the signal is digital... |
