Just picked this up. I think that it would be the best choice at this time for a new addition to the 4K library. War films (and documentaries) are practically an obsession with me, especially WWII. Have to get some Atmos add-ons for the fronts, though. My next upgrade, most likely. Sure wish we had a cheaper hobby Good investment, though

Watched this on VuDu. Is it just me or does this film presents some of the most realistic war scenes this side of Saving Private Ryan?

And even aside from the banding, there were digital artifacts sprinkled about in various scenes.
Can you name some scenes with banding issues?

I only rented it. But it was throughout the movie in quite a few scenes...I do recall in particular some of the earlier interior scenes.

It's a Mel Gibson directed film. He always does realistic violence. It's one of the things that makes his films so sincere. He doesn't shy away from the reality of violence and it's horrible consequences.

Because for most of WW2 the bulletproof vests were too restrictive, too heavy, experimental, and ineffective. Doron plate armor was introduced for a battalion at Okinawa in 1944 or 1945, but Doron couldn't stop a straight shot. Only slow moving flak and shrapnel. It wasn't until 1969 that American Body Armor was founded and began researching and developing steel plate bullet proof vests.

I went back and I too noticed banding in the HD 1080p source. Particularly when him and his futurewife go out on a date, and some scenes inside the parents' house

I noticed the horrible color banding throughout the film as well. This was on the Blu-ray (rented originally) and on the HD streaming through Vudu. I noticed it through the scenes where you were talking about, I also noticed it in the hospital when he first meets his future wife. There were a couple more instances that I noticed it too. Very strange to see color banding on people's faces. I had never seen banding this noticeable and consistently throughout a film before.

It's Lionsgate so it'll most likely be the exact same as the US.

Will the UK have banding is what I'm really worried about.

I've not seen The conflict of Faith bonus feature mentioned on the U.S disc either on the rear cover or in the review on this site or others.

I have just taken delivery of the UK 4K UHD with slipcover (from Amazon UK). A conflict of faith is listed on the back cover and says that it is included on the Bluray only.

Finally watched this last night... wasn't really what I was expecting from a Gibson war movie. I mean sure, there was plenty of excessive violence, but I guess I wasn't expecting the main character to be a CO. Anyway the movie was good, definitely one of the better looking UHDs I own.

Gibson has never been one to shy away from religious connotations - look at Passion of the Christ - and probably found the story too fascinating to pass up. Knowing the nature of the story and the viciousness of the battle in question, Gibson's involvement isn't odd at all.

Just got the UK edition. This isn't UHD related but for the regular BD Lionsgate appear to have fixed the wretched banding seen on the US Blu-ray! I'm looking at the caps provided by vinny in this post and it's NOTHING like that. Here's a photo because I can't be bothered to rip the disc:

vin's US cap:

my UK photo (ignore differences in colour, contrast etc, that's due to the exposure on the camera):
