White washing is when you erase a legitimate cultural voice; this was an appropriated voice.
LA has a massive Asian-American population though, which Hollywood mysteriously doesn't reflect in their LA movies.
I'd say the original did it right, even if it was in the background. Although we did have the AZN Eye Scientist in the original Blade Runner.

Odd the more political and "liberal" Hollywood gets, the more they whitewash.
confusing!!

Scott and the writers offer a different interpretation to the above for emphasising the proliferation of an Asian population in 2019 Los Angeles, and I promise you it has next to nothing to do with cultural appropriation or the hollow fetishization of Eastern imagery. Most of it was based in economics and geopolitics..

I will make significantly audible sounds in the theater if I see this in the movie:

I, for one, don't know what to feel about the alleged merging of the Alien/Blade Runner universes.

All I can think is that, in the future, some "genius" studio executive will likely propose the making of Aliens vs Replicants.

Agreed. People shouldn't put the original Blade Runner in the same category as Ghost in the Shell

It was already merged in the Prometheus viral material.
Weyland bashed Tyrell for spending time tinkering with his toys or something. Called his robot models superior

Yeah, I remember something like that, but I'll only take it seriously if done in-movie.

(please, if there's any mention of it in Covenant, don't spoil)

I wouldn't want it ever talked about in the movies. I don't need any kind of explanation or anything. I just like the idea of subtle hints about it.

Maybe that means we'll see Alien vs. Predator vs. Replicant at some point. It's all connected!

It's even funnier when movie advertisements use people's Tweets about the movie. When that happens, you know it's a crap film.

It wasn't. They chose shots from the first one to compare with 2049. They essentially made a new trailer for Blade Runner in the style of 2049's.

Oh okay. Thanks for the info. I haven't seen any of the original Blade Runner trailers in so long, so I didn't know.

Finally saw the trailer for this in front of Covenant last night. Hadn't seen any of them so far, and wasn't really too excited about the prospect of a BR sequel. But damn, this one might've been the most perfect trailer I've seen in a while. Was great to hear some of that Vangelis music again, the images are STUNNING, and it *gasp* doesn't reveal the entire goddamn plot beat-by-beat!

Yeah this just became something I need to see in IMAX 3D opening night (it's in 3D, right?).
