^got it, thanks. I actually came here because I wanted to share that the werner herzog collection is currently £34 from Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/DVD-Blu-r...504676&sr=1-1&

According to camelcamelcamel, it seems this is the lowest price it's been since the last time--and that only lasted a day.

*actually nevermind, ebay has a couple of listings at the same price point.

From a press release for the India on Film season:

Quote:
New Blu-ray release of My Beautiful Laundrette
Presented on Blu-ray in the UK for the first time, Hanif Kureishi’s and Stephen Frears’ Oscar®-nominated first film collaboration, My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) will be released as a Dual Format Edition on 21 August. Kureishi’s cross-cultural love story starring Gordon Warnecke and Daniel Day Lewis was a cultural landmark in representing South Asian British experience on film. The film also proved a watershed moment for both fledgling broadcaster Channel 4, who went on to form Film4 Productions, and producer Tim Bevan, who went on to launch Working Title with Sarah Radclyffe.

probably last few copies on other amazon sites right now, cheapest is

get it while you can.

Could this mean that the BFI's license has expired and we might get a Criterion release of the Trilogy of Life?!

Hope this means we'll also eventually get things like Local Hero, When the Wind Blows...maybe even Ghost Dog?

If they ever get round to upgrading their Terence Davies releases, it would certainly be good if they added The Neon Bible to the collection

The BFI submitted The Orchard End Murder to the BBFC recently:

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/orchard-end-murder-1980

This release has been known about for some time, but it appears to finally be coming. Another one for Flipside series surely? It would be a great chance to include some British horror shorts as extras, e.g. Twenty-Nine (1969 - 26m), The Lake (1978 - 33mins), Panic (1978 - 20mins), Dark Water (1980 - 30mins). I know the BFI have screened the first three on numerous occasions, under the Flipside banner.

Never seen this but it sounds fantastic. Being only 49 mins in length you would think they will include some shorts too...i would love Panic (1978) or The Dumb Waiter (1979).

That'd be cool. Probably depends if Light of Asia has a good restoration, Shiraz obviously does based on the big screening.

On related matter, someone's gotta release the restored Apu trilogy. Do we know if Artificial Eye still got rights or is it possible we'll get the Criterion (or perhaps BFI will be able to release it?)

Seconding The Dumb Waiter. I saw it in the cinema in the early 80s and I've never forgotten it. I have forgotten which film it played in support to at my local, though! (It may have been Pink Floyd The Wall, not sure.)

BFI Flipside did show the triple bill of Twenty-Nine, Panic and The Lake at the BFI Southbank a few years ago - I saw them there.

I've not seen The Orchard End Murder, so that will be one to watch.

Beaver review of Madame de...: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film6/blu-r....._blu-ray.htm

BFI's encoding could have been better, but it does look like Gaumont have 'fixed' their restoration (with more natural grain, for a start). So the BFI is the one to go for - I'll definitely pick it up in the near future.

Pioneers of African-American Cinema dropped briefly to £19.99 (from Home Entertainment Online on Amazon) so I bagged a copy (I was looking for something to get free shipping on The Red Turtle!) - nice!

So its definitely still worth keeping it in your wishlist and checking regularly

Dammit, I would've definitely gone for it at that price! Was looking for something to go with The Red Turtle myself...oh well, maybe next time.

I notice the Lino Brocka set is the same price. Do I try it a third time, or wait and get it from HMV to ensure no damage?

I snagged it at that price on Tuesday. Unfortunately, they don't ship to the US, so I had to send it to family in Europe. I'll get it eventually.
