I will probably stick with my upgraded Denon DVD 3800BDCI Blu-ray and upgraded Denon DVD 5910. Both were upgraded by Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company:

I don't think that $5,800 price is correct. I think they just did a Yen to Dollar conversion. It will most likely be in the 3K range here in the states.

Because price points are not the same in different parts of the world. It's a Japanese announcement made in Yen. That dollar amount was derived by converting Yen to Dollars. You'd be amazed how little Americans pay for gear compared to others.

It won't be 5,800 USD when it hits stateside.

My guess is that $5800 is correct for the price. We may be lucky if we can purchase the unit in the US for between $4500 and $5000 for the foreseeable future after introduction. The Pre/Pro amp and their separate amp sells for $7,500 list.

By the way, Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company had performed upgrades on both the $7,500 Denon AVP1HD Pre/Pro as well as the $1800 Onkyo PR-SC885. Dave found that with the upgrades the Onkyo sounds substantially better than the Denon with upgrades. I was going to purchase the upgraded Denon originally, but ultimately at Dave's suggestion I purchased the upgraded Onkyo for a savings of about $4,000. I am extremely pleased with my upgraded Onkyo; it blows away the stock or upgraded Denon AVP1HD.

Onkyo is hot like hell. I don't like it. My 2808 is barely warm while at work.

wow, you're really comparing apples and oranges

The Onkyo runs warm, not as hot as you make it sound. Onkyo's receivers run warmer, since they carry amplifiers

My upgraded Onkyo PR-SC885 Pre/Pro only gets slightly warm. There are no amps in the unit. It is not a receiver or a power amp. My upgraded Aragon Palladium 1K monoblock amps do not get that terribly hot either considering they are 125 watts RMS class A each into 8 ohms before the switch to class A/B into 400 watts RMS into 8 0hm, 600 watts into 4 ohms, and 1000 watts into 2 ohms.

I know how much the Pre/Pro and Power Amp combo sells for. We (J&R) are authorized Denon dealers, though we don't have the AVP/POA combo.

The price of the AVP/POA is even more reason why you can rest assured that when it lands here it won't be $5,800. If their flag ship processor and 10 channel power amp sell for $7500 list, do you think a universal player will be almost $6000 list in the same market? That's 80% of the $7500 price. There will be a bigger price disparity between their player and pre/pro and power amp here in the states.

You haven't seen the prices of some of the high end makers then. Prices and products by the likes of Esoteric, Ayre, Goldman, Krell, McIntosh, etc. And these aren't Blu-ray/DVD/SACD/DVD-A/CD players.

Sure I have. Denon is not in that class, or rather perceived not to be in that class. We are talking about Denon, not veblen good, hifi gear. There is a difference. Price structuring will fall in line with their reference products in their dedicated markets. I don't get what's so hard to understand about that. That dollar amount is based on a direct conversion of what the pricing will be in Yen today. That doesn't mean that the US will pay $5,800 for it, if or when it arrives here. If we based our (American) prices on foreign market rates, you'd have a heart attack.

As I had previously suggested, I would expect that the unit will sell for between $4500 to about $5000 for a period of time after release. With time, perhaps as low as around $3500 (possibly as low as $3200) to $4000 seems about right.

According to Max that might be changing VERY soon, as early as next year.
We might see US list prices going up by almost 50% on Japanese gear.
