Just watched The Wolverine (2013) in 3D and loved it. Excellent quality 3D throughout, excellent picture quality, nice exotic locale (Japan, although a number of the scenes taking place in Japan were actually and very effectively filmed in Australia), good cast, good story, good action. Even in 2D (which I saw three years ago) I liked it better than the new Logan movie, and in 3D it is much better.

Just watched Gullivers' Travels. The same predictable humor available in any Jack Black movie with an added dash of mild 3d.

I also received the 3-D Catalogue by Kraftwerk (3D blu-ray abridged edition) from Amazon.com. The track list really is limited. I hope I don't regret not buying the complete box set, but it's a bit much at $165. The abridged edition was $22 and change. Prices have since gone up on Amazon.com for these 3D blu-rays. I am off to spend part of the holiday weekend at Hersheypark in Pennsylvania. I won't have a chance to check out these new 3D blu-rays until Monday. ![]() Last edited by nycomet; 05-27-2017 at 08:12 AM. |

the movie was fun, I don't get the hate for this film, never got bored the entire movie IMO and the CGI is very well done IMO. Didn't have a problem with the pacing ether. |

![]() The only Asylum 3D movies that aren't autoconversions are Sex Pot, The Haunting Of Winchester House and A Haunting In Salem but none of those are particularly impressive. ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote:

![]() ![]() Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk is one of the most unique films I've ever seen in 3-D. It goes for a kind of kaleidoscopic approach to telling its story, jumping back and forward in time, often without warning. It freewheels from sly comedy to touching drama to surreal showbiz spectacle to intense combat. Some will find it messy, but I think Ang Lee's approach makes perfect sense. His protagonist is suffering from PTSD; that fractured perception comes across very clearly in the editing, directing, and subtle acting of Joe Alwyn in the title role. He's never quite sure what the hell's going on around him or what he's supposed to be doing. He's adrift in a kind of limbo between the insanities of showbiz and the war. The movie disappeared without trace after a hostile reception last year, but I found it a quietly masterful, albeit odd, piece of filmmaking that isn't like anything else out there. There's an understated but poignant emotional thread running through the film that is absolutely Ang Lee. The native 3-D is cleverly used. As in Life of Pi, there's an unpredictability to it that keeps the viewer on his toes. Lee uses it organically, intuitively, deciding when to dazzle you and when to gently immerse you or pull you into a shot. It reminds me of the use of 3-D in Miss Sadie Thompson. There's nothing really ostentatious about it. Rather, to Lee, it's just another seamless part of the storytelling language of film, another tool in his prodigious toolbox. Like the movie itself, the 3-D won't be to everyone's taste. I think he could have pushed the depth further throughout, but I loved seeing it in a film of this type, one of the few dramas ever to have showcased the format. I'm still gutted I never got to see Billy Lynn's in all its HFR/3D glory, but I'm more than happy to own this 3-D blu-ray version. It's a real keeper. |

There is officially a HOLY GRAIL of my 3D Blu-ray collection of 400+ movies!!!!!
Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage 3D surprisingly amazing! The 3D is SO strong it might not be to everyone's tastes because it made my eyes go wonky frequently but I LOVED it! Strongest 3D I have ever seen with LOADS of very strong pop-outs and multiple layers of depth! The underwater environment of the reef really took advantage of it with vibrant color and lots of different textures. I would recommend this to everyone with no hesitation. It's a kids movie but the animation is very good and the characters are cute and even the music is good! Sorry, I get a little over excited about these things Received: Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage 3D (Korean Import) Scar 3D (Austria Import - GB organized by Revgen, thanks! Ordered: Beauty and the Beast 3D Steelbook (India release) Last edited by Shaggy1978; 05-28-2017 at 07:40 PM. |

It's an experimental movie in a lot of ways, and arguably touches on too many themes for its length, but so many individual scenes worked for me, I ended up liking it way more than I expected to. It's not necessarily reality Lee's trying to portray, it's Billy Lynn's traumatized perception of what happened and what's currently unfolding around him. Everything's filtered through that, so it's naturally heightened, surreal, or just slightly off-kilter. Not saying it all works, but it's a fascinating oddity of a film. It bears similarities to Jarhead (the absurdity and black humour) and Flags of Our Fathers, but has a DNA all its own.
