I'm really disappointed THIS isn't the reversible art.

The House of the Devil is amazing and perhaps the best horror films of the 2000s.

The Innkeepers is not as good but still quite atmospheric.

The Sacrament is rubbish, didn't care for him making a found footage movie and the departure from the tone of the previous two films was jarring.

I haven't seen Cabin Fever 2 but in all honestly you can't blame him for it being bad, he tried to get his name taken off it but couldn't. Apparently the producers meddled with the film and he has since disowned it.

He also directed a section of the first V/H/S but it wasnt that good IIRC.

An Arrow blu-ray of The House of the Devil would be great but I doubt they'll go for it.

Yeah, baby! CT-filmed horror all the way!

I was at a conference for social studies teachers recently at the university where they filmed the beginning of The House of the Devil. I got stoked when I entered the building for the conference and realized the door I went through was the one where a scene from the movie was filmed.

A few years ago I did a "Ti West" trip and visited the hotel from The Innkeepers and drove by the house and cemetery from The House of the Devil as well as the apartment from the opening of the film.

If anyone is ever in CT, I highly recommend checking out the locations. The house from The House of the Devil is in a particularly beautiful part of the state.

I absolutely love House of the Devil, but I wish Ti West would make another film that's as good or better.

I quite liked The Innkeepers, but for the moment, he's almost a one hit wonder. So much potential, such mediocre output.

Meh, I think Ti West is grossly overrated.

His take on horror can be boiled down to "pass off excessive meandering as atmospheric tension, then actually have shit happen in the last five minutes".

Sorry...not a fan.

I really enjoyed The House of the Devil, and thought The Innkeepers was very effective but not nearly as enjoyable (but I didn't hesitate to get the BD for £3 when Metrodome went under...it's still a pretty good film). I've not seen any of his horror output since then - The Sacrifice is still on my Netflix watch list - but thought In a Valley of Violence was far more interesting than I had heard from various reviews, and I plan on picking it up soon (in the 2 for £10 offers at the moment).

I'd be all in for an Arrow Video edition of The House of the Devil. It would fit perfectly with the rest of their line-up and I'm sure they could get some solid interviews with West et al. Plus the Jeff Grace score is great, and they might even be able to license it for a possible limited edition...

I'm all for more love for House of the Devil, but I don't really know what they could add beyond what was on the original Blu-ray.

Whereas limited release first and then a standard release has been a successful business model for arrow, so why change it?
Exactly. If you keep increasing the LE numbers until everyone who wants one can get one, well, it's not limited. I know I've bought things before simply because they were LE, and they might be good and I don't want to kick myself later. Phenomena is a case in point, I've never seen it, I've potentially taken a sale away from a massive fan, I might hate it when I finally get time to watch it, and if I do I'll eBay it for whatever the going rate is. If it wasn't limited I might never have got around to buying it at all, as my money might have been going to other LEs instead.
Scarcity breeds interest, it drives up the prices - not just on the secondary market, but also for the original sale. Hell, look at the conversation that the limited status of these releases generates here!
I do feel bad for those that pre-ordered House and had amazon ruin that for them, but that is unusual, most of the time you have a 3 month window to guarantee yourself a set with a pre-order.

Assuming its coming out this year, are the specs for The Thing likely to be announced next month or is the release more likely in October? I'm expecting a full-on quick sellout for this one so we need to gear up

Default PIECES - Any compression issues since it's all on 1 disc unlike the US release?

I was curious about this since there's no mention in the review and there's a lot of extras. A least the US release is split over 2 discs. Why did they use 1 disc on the UK release?

There's just a making of and a few deleted scenes...Arrow would not only provide a stronger encode but probably track down West for an interview (maybe even some of the cast and crew...Noonan would be good), maybe license Jeff Grace's score, and obviously include the obligatory booklet. Obviously it'll only happen if they see reason enough to license it though.

October would be perfect, as that's around my birthday. Also, hopefully out before Halloween as it's one of my all-time favourite horrors. I'll be pre-ordering it right away!

If you like HGL's movies, hell yeah. If you've never seen them I suggest you try out 1-2 and see if they appeal to you at all. I found the couple I tried (Wizard of Gore, Gore Gore Girls) very dreary.

I know this is about a DVD, but on the old VHS art that Arrow used in addition to the original poster art on the reverse for Reform School Girls release the girls on the poster don't even appear to be in the film. Perhaps someone can correct me, but I was just curious. This is the art in question. http://www.rarecultcinema.com/wp-con...hool-Girls.jpg

There are probably a number of reasons as to why but the bottom line I suppose is that they didn't really have to. In case David's post wasn't clear enough, the Arrow release boasts a superior encode and actually fares a lot better compression-wise than the US disc despite a lower bitrate.
