What are you talking about not as easy. The Sony one plugs into the wall then the controller or psp via the mini usb, it can't get any easier...

...or you could just use a self-powered USB hub, get a useful PS3 peripheral, quite probably for less than this widget, and keep your items charged that way.

Its for the convenience factor, plus you can charge two at once... and it works on anything using a mini usb-b

Why is everyone spending so much money on these things?

Even a cursory glance at Amazon turned up this for $27:

http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Port.../dp/B000IZDN60

7 ports, self powered. Charge your stuff all day if you like.

I got one similar at Radio Shack for $15, and it's FAR more functional than the hunk of junk in the original post.

Because YOU have to have your PS3 on, or Have it hooked up to a computer. Where this just plugs into a wall, therefore you could play your psp all day long.

Also people love to buy Sony things for Sony stuff, because most of Sony's stuff is proprietary.

seems more like a waste of money to me. Whats the point of having one when you can easily charge from your system or PC?

Its for when you don't want to turn on your ps3, of if you do not have a ps3 laying around.. vacation anyone, or pc in other room..

People stop beings so damn negative about it... I work at best buy 80% of the questions there are, do you have a cable that will do this???, that is why these sell.

Uh no.

Self-powered USB hubs plug into the wall. They don't care whether or not the device they're sending data to are turned on or not. You DO NOT need to have your PS3 or PC on to use them. That's why they are.. ahem... self-powered.

My controllers charge whether my PS3 is on or not. Trust me on this.

It didn't say self powered when i first read it, i read to the point it needed to be hooked up to a computer..

I know there are self powered USB hubs, but who wants that mess in the Front of the ps3... if the usb's where in the back i wouldn't care. now with this i can plug it behind the tv and always have stuff charging, or take it on the go with me and charge from my car (with a coverter), etc.

And again, Most people like to buy the Sony products and there proprietary stuff.

Or you could just not connect it to the PS3 at all, stick it in the back and use it in exactly the same way, only instead of charging 2 items at a time you could charge 7.

Or heaven forbid you run a cable from USB 1 around to behind the PS3, where you can then place all your fun things like Rock Band dongles for the guitar/drums or hook up an external USB hard drive safely out of sight. Oh, and still have room to put your charging cables... safely out of sight.

And if you're hiding these devices behind the TV, who cares what company name is on the front side decal?

I'm all for homogeneity for aesthetics, but your logic makes zero sense. I mean, if you want to spend more money just for the sake of spending more money, that's fine, but if that's the case, why aren't you buying Monster HDMI cables?

I'm not going to buy this, and I get your point. But I am trying to speak as the general public. They don't get that. Anyways, its a great item for new ps3 owners.
