AMC's doing a double-feature of Spy Who Loved Me and FYEO to commemorate Roger Moore: https://www.amctheatres.com/movies/a...7doublefeature

Some percentage of sales will go to UNICEF.

I'll probably post this in the other thread too, but Sir Roger Moore was one of my favorite human beings and I'm genuinely saddened by his passing. Last time I felt this bummed out by a celebrity death was Desmond Llewelyn's.

Moore was always the most entertaining Bond and I've never been one to take seriously the nonsense arguments about who was the "best", or "truest" in the role.

Given that we live in a dystopian hellscape, I hope they lighten up the series, or at least the lead actor. I don't know how many more dreary, depressing entries I can take. I'm not saying we need to return to the poorly-executed camp of Die Another Day, but let's have some more fun, take the whole thing less seriously, and trim the running times for these films.

Nobody was suaver, smoother, cleverer or more dryly amusing than Roger.

I absolutley hated Spectre. I've been big on Daniel Craig coming back, but frankly, I'm kind of sick of him in the role. The guy acts like he has to participate in the worst franchise of all time or something. I think I'm ready to have someone who actually likes and enjoys the role to take over. I'm ready for fun as well.

I think it's too bad Dalton couldn't do more than 2 films. I think he's the next best Bond behind Connery.

But I like them all for what they bring, but I agree they should lighten the films up some and try to steer away from the serious/darker way the Craig films were. I think it's tougher now though with so many Bond copycats in the past few decades.

Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and The World is Not Enough were all highly enjoyable.

Only Die Another Day went too far and that was hardly Brosnan's fault.

Craig loves the role. He gets pissy because each time he just finishes filming (what is surely to be an exhausting) movie, he gets asked "When's the next one?" before said movie is even out.

I agree. I sometimes even like Dalton better than Connery. I often think it was too bad he only did two especially as Licence To Kill is the end of an era of sorts. Dalton got a bum rap and his era ended all too abruptly. But on a positive note, at least he didn't get a chance to "go stale". There's no equivalent to Diamonds Are Forever, A View To A Kill or Die Another Day in Dalton's Bond CV.

That's true, he certainly didn't wear out his welcome. He left me just wanting more. I'll never figure out why people didn't connect with him as much, could've been an iconic Bond. Frankly I think with Craig they were trying to get back to what Dalton was. His two films were definitely the last Bond films I truly loved.

I can watch the Brosnan films fine (just finished Goldeneye in my latest run-through), albeit with a fair amount of eye-rolling and tendency to be easily distracted by other things. He's just so cheesy and forced to me. But like you said, Licence to Kill marked the end of an era for the films in numerous ways.

Hey guys, what's the difference between this release:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0119OFPPK/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5 A1OLE

and this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0119OFDF2/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ANFMTVCTX LW9N

in terms of special features (apart from the extra bonus disc)?

Does the white version have any special features, or just the movies?

TWINE especially has aged well and was kinda ahead of its time. Female villain, M getting a bigger role, a character from M's past comes back to exact revenge. Plus it has great action and probably David Arnold's best Bond score. People just focus too much on the badly miscast Richards.

I think Dalton gets a bad rap because those in teh know were all set for Pierce Brosnan then the US TV network scuttled that. He was quiet, internalized things,…*all the things I want from a Bond.

Dalton was also Michael G. Wilson's first attempt to get dark, really dark. License To Kill really was a dark, Othello-tinged psycho drama with some Bond trappings. LTK was somewhat conventional compared to all the other 80s action movies, so I think it got lost in the mix. I watched again recently and had forgotten the love song at the end. Blech.

I think people didn't connect with Dalton because he does come across as too intense, especially coming on the heels of Moore. An entire generation and then some had grown accustomed to Bond being a certain way due to Moore and the tone shift was pretty jarring.

I'm also not a big fan of Brosnan. To me he's a TV / DTV caliber actor who simply got the role of Bond because he looked the part. I remember watching Goldeneye for the first time after being without a new Bond movie for 6 and a half years and as soon as we got to the interrogation scene where he makes the comment about "What? No chit-chat" I had to shake my head. There's a difference between a Bond movie like Moonraker not taking itself too seriously, and a movie like Goldeneye outright mocking the series' past and from then on I just had a sour taste in my mouth with respect to Brosnan and his smirking approach to Bond. Now that they're a part of the Bond tapestry I don't mind them that much these days but they're certainly not my go-to movies when I want a Bond fix.

Yeah, it was a stunt casting that backfired. Nobody got the joke (or they did but found it tired and lame).

I thought that was a great song. A few years later Celine Dion recorded a cover and it was a huge hit and the whole time I was bitter that nobody acknowledged it was a James Bond song.

I thought that TWINE was a major step back into the right direction after TND. Richards is miscast but that is the fault of the producers and director that cast her. Plus in one scene they but her in sneakers. A Bond girl should never, ever be in sneakers! Otherwise, I think she's does the best job she can under the circumstances. And she is easy on the eyes...

Skyfall was almost a remake in certain respects of TWINE.

I think TWINE is one of the dreariest and dullest Bond films, with camp only sourced from Denise Richards and John Cleese (although his scenes were meant to be funny). I agree that people focus too much on Dr. Christmas Jones, nuclear physicist, but I just don't find much joy or sense of fun, outside of the pre-credits sequence.

Dalton has the acting chops, but I dislike his take on the character because he lacks charisma.

Yep. I'm sure he is absolutely exhausted, and the first thing people ask him is to get back onto the horse. Hell, I hate being asked when I am coming back to work when I'm leaving - and I have it easier than he does.
