I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides 3D today and the 3D is better than I remember. It's medium 3D through-out with a few sword pop-outs and a few stronger scenes. I remembered the 3D being just two layers (front and aft) but most scenes had some depth. Some portions were much stronger than others so it was not super consistent. I'm not a huge fan of this series but I enjoyed myself and definitely prefer the 3D version. I plan to see the new movie this weekend so I wanted to refresh my memory.

Watched wolf totem tonight and it was average story with some mild 3d with some decent 3d in certain scenes. There was some beautiful scenery throughout the movie.

I don't know, just when I think the bar has been set for 3D when watching one film, Ant-Man comes along and destroys it.

Hi gazadams,

Have my copy but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Everyone says the 3D is great and the story itself is a lot of fun.

Friend of mine went to the local FYE which is now closed and got a 3D copy of the Three Musketeers for 3 bucks. He has no 3D TV so is giving me the disc for free.

I have a spare blu ray case and will run off the art cover. Now how's that for a deal?

Excellent 3D in that one. When I first saw that movie (in 2D), I did not care for it because it was not a serious version. Recently, when I saw it in 3D, I liked it a lot (was not expecting a serious movie this time). I often find I like a movie better on second viewing because I enjoy it more for what it is instead of what I might have wanted it to be (i.e. my wishes and expectations don't get in the way). And in this case, the excellent 3D helped a lot in enjoying a fun movie.

I recently watched Sing

This has a few decent pop-outs here and there and some interesting camerawork so sure beats Disney/Pixar but after The Secret Life of Pets I was expecting a bit more from Illumination. This is OK but tends towards the generic - if it wasn't in 3D I'd rather just re-watch The Muppet Show or Meet The Feebles instead.

Yesterday I watched four films in a row, so that was a good day!

I started with Underworld Blood Wars

I watched this in the afternoon, not usually the best time to watch a dark film on a plasma TV but the increased light levels in my living room didn't impact on my enjoyment of the movie (can't go wrong with Kate Beckinsale in that outfit) or the 3D.

I can't say there was anything memorable about the 3D, a few corridor shots showing off the depth a bit and separation that enhances every scene with action, weaponry and/or slow-motion, but nothing particularly notable. But mild 3D is still better than 2D to my eyes, and it helps that I liked the film.

Then I watched xXx, xXx The Next Level (both in 2D) and xXx The Return Of Xander Cage in 3D

Watching xXx The Return Of Xander Cage was a much better experience at home in 3D than it was in 2D at the European Premiere. I loved the 3D - particles of dirt and water coming out out at me, proper depth and separation, just what you need in an action movie. I thought the finale looked like garbage in 2D but in 3D it looked perfect. This is what I call a quality conversion. The sound though, it was threatening to blow my TV's speakers. I really must get a sound bar...

Hi Davidbe,

Since I got into 3D, I've experienced that a lot. Found Pacific Rim boring and even turned it off cable when first watching it. After got my set, got the disc and now it's one of my favorites. Guess it wasn't that Pacific Rim was a bad film, for I now see that it wasn't, it's just that after seeing so many monster films, one gets used to them and maybe a bit bored. 3D opens up a whole new experience each time a new disc pops into the player.

Hi Louis (only teasing).

Just got my copy in the mail today. Enjoyed your thoughts about the finale in 3D compared to your original reaction seeing it in 2D.

Talking about your TV speakers. Didn't realize we had the sub-woofer so high and when watching "The Great Wall" Saturday night a neighbor knocked on our door. No problem, we know each other quite well but it was making her bedroom shake. After lowering the volume level, went back to her apartment to be sure everything was OK. Wonderfully silent. Told her we were watching it in 3D and so if she also saw things coming THROUGH her wall, that would be really something to talk about!

It reminded me of The Protector 2 - unlike xXx 3 where it's just the end, all the action scenes in that film look terrible in 2D, all the visual elements seem cut and pasted in in somehow. Some of the greenscreening still sticks out horribly but for the most part the film only makes sense in 3D.

I had a noise-sensitive neighbour below me a year or two back, he used to do passive-aggressive stuff like leave notes asking me to walk on tiptoes (around my own flat!) The two films that got him knocking on my door were the Evil Dead remake (rain of blood!) and This Is The End (giant demon carnage). Needless to say, I'm glad he moved out.

Watched both Sword Master 3d, XXX Return to Xander Cage 3d.

Sword master was a revisit (due to the 3d version). I am so glad the I went ahead and got it! The opening bridge scene is a sight to behold for sure, and the rest of the movie is simply beautiful. 3D range from medium to strong with some nice eye popping moments. Fantastic movie!

XXX was a total blast for me. I was so happy to see this movie get a 3d release (now I wish the 1st two movies got this treatment). As others have noted, the 3d is on point and equally impressive is the sound track. Loved that dial 9 moment ...

My 3d collection is growing more awesome with quality releases like these I so wish that fate of the 8 was releasing in 3d....

I had a lot of fun with this title. True, there's not a lot of substance, maybe very little, but it sure was a fun action flick. It definitely seemed strange at first having demons, gargoyles, and Frankenstein all into the same realm. After checking my brain in at the door I thoroughly enjoyed it. As for the 3D, I thought there was decent amount of immersion and 3D separation. It's not the most "Wowing" presentation by any stretch, but I thought it faired better than than I was originally expecting. Certainly worth the $5 that I spent to pick this title up!

I suppose there is a law in Europe where cover art MUST be destroyed by giant ratings stickers.

When you see Sword Master 3D you will be VERY pleased. I have the Hong Kong 3D blu-ray -- that's the release I recommend. Tsui Hark is credited as writer/producer.

FYI: one of the lead actors in Sword Master (Lin Gengxin aka Kenny Lin) also appears in these AMAZING must-have Asian 3D blu-rays by Tsui Hark.

The Taking of Tiger Mountain
Journey To The West The Demons Strike Back
Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon

Although I haven't found a UK import that does this, my three German imports had the courtesy to print the artwork on the backside without the giant rating stickers! So it was a simple matter of pulling it out and turning it over. Yay Germans!
