The box is always included with Head. I thought that was just an unspoken agreement.

Joking on this thread aside, that's the whole reason they called the movie HEAD, so that if there was a sequel they could advertise it as being "from the folks who gave you HEAD". Or so the legend goes anyway.

One of my most anticipated upgrades. The sad thing is that the UK bluray looks worse than the Criterion DVD. Criterion's restored master would look great in HD.

I need to get La Notte and L' Eclisse. The other two are very hypnotic films. I'm assuming is safe to expect the same from these.

It is the only one that isn't a Sony title, so it likely will never be available from Criterion outside the box set.

Whoa. Yeah, I like to know when this starts also. Might be able to squeeze out a few more BluRays with this.

What a bummer. I'm sure if Criterion really wants to, they'll find a way to give us Head in its full glory.

The thing about Head is once you've had it, you want the entire box. You want to explore the box, look at the features. Head is great on its own, but is really supplemented by the box.

Has anyone watched Ghost World yet? Someone on the Ghost World thread was asking if anyone else was experiencing quality issues with the transfer stating it's lacking contrast especially in indoor scenes. I have to wait until tonight to watch it.

I thought the German BD looked good, so I can't imagine Criterion's release having issues that the German BD didn't. But I haven't seen the Criterion disc yet.

So true.

...Head deserves to have its own box.

Up until last year, B&N had a 40% off all blu-rays beginning sometime in June. Last year, I seem to recall that the sale was limited to around 200 to 300 blu-rays. Who knows what will happen this year as a lot of B&N's "once-common" sales practices have changed for the worse.

In a few shots, yes. But mostly the blu is far better. It's just too bright in some scenes. It's not a great master by any means.

That's certainly true for most major studio releases.

That depends on what special features you're talking about. It's true that many Holywood Blockbusters have a lot that are just fluff "featurettes" from an electronic press kit in which the Star doesn't have anything more to say than "When I read the script, I knew I just had to do it".

But there are an uncountable number of BDs (and DVDs and LDs) in my collection that have extras that are fascinating. Case in point: Criterion's The Battle of Algiers, which in addition to several excellent documentaries on the film and its director has an hour+ documentary giving an historical perspective about the events depicted in the film.

Head is also included in Rhino's own The Monkees: The Complete Series set. It also has recently discovered deleted scenes. The set has everything that's on the Criterion Head disc, except for the Criterion created documentaries.
