If you are region-free, you can import the superior Arrow versions of most of the films that were featured in volume I.

I recently sold my volume I (for $150 on eBay) and did just that.

Import the Australian collection. You get everything from Vol 1 but The Pit and the Pendulum and the neat pbs movie intros. The collection is region free. I got it for $60 shipped.

The Abominable Dr. Phibes


Dr. Anton Phibes (Vincent Price) will seek out his own vengeance on he a team of medical doctors he believes allowed his wife Victoria Regina Phibes (Caroline Munro...we actually only see photos of her, darn) to die on the operating table. Phibes will use the Ten Plagues of Egypt from the Old Testament to accomplish his murderous bent. He has help from his beautiful and silent female assistant Vulnavia (Virginia North).

Dr. Anton Phibes was supposedly killed in a car crash in 1921. He was horribly scarred & could not speak, so he made prosthetics and used acoustics for his voice. He was an expert organist & theologian(hence the plagues). One by one he kills the doctors and a nurse. Reserving the final punishment for Dr. Vesalius (Joseph Cotten) he...

A very bizarre & strange tale, however VP's great performance made this enjoyable for me!

Witchfinder General (aka The Conqueror Worm)


Matthew Hopkins (Vincent Price) and his assistant John Stearne (Robert Russell), visit village after village(during the English Civil War), brutally torturing men and women who they say are committing witchcraft, whether they are or not. Richard Marshall (Ian Ogilvy) a Roundhead (supporters of the Parliament of England). After he saves the life of his Captain, he rides home to Brandeston, Suffolk, to visit his lover Sara (Hilary Dwyer).

John Lowes (Rupert Davies), Sarah's uncle, gives permission to Richard to marry Sara, if he will take her away from this town. Richard needs to get back to the army, but promises to come back for Sarah when he is on leave and that everything will be alright. However, Hopkins and Stearne accuse Lowes being in cahoots with the devil and plans on killing him until...

This was another great film with exquisite costume period pieces and love how they used the great outdoors(this is what I always think make these films superior to others).
