YES Nielsen is flawed but in most cases highest rated shows are still renewed and lowest rated shows are still canceled. There are exceptions but ratings determine a lot.

That being said FTWD is still safe unless it's a massively expensive show. It's AMC's second highest rated show and a top watched cable show so it is safe.

AMC actually has some ownership over this show compared to its parent show, meaning more money comes to them instead of them splitting it amongst "x" number of parties.

Is the massive decline in ratings reason to be worried, sure, it went from 10 million to 3 million over the course of 19 episodes but it's still a top rated show and still has some life left in it

But yes ratings still matter

You didn't quote the rest of my post, which explains why everyone uses Nielsen: because they are, literally, the only game in town.
Which was my point. For example if you need a new front door and there is only one person on the planet that can provide this service, they can do a so-so job and you would have to be okay with it, because there are no other options.
I've just never been a fan of ratings as it's a flawed system that has no competition around to urge them on to better performance.
So how do you know Nielsen does a good job? Because a very small portion of the population might tune in to watch a given program? Seems like a lot of what makes a show good or bad, centers on opinion.
Let's not even get into how streaming and binge watching have totally changed the TV viewing landscape.
Trust me, I know all too well how Nielsen operates.

Looking forward to tonight's premiere. I'm liking the idea of introducing a colony of preppers to the show. These folks should have ample supply of nearly everything!
Side note about that, I enjoyed watching the Doomsday Prepper show on Discovery channel. Some of the people on that show had some amazing ideas.

The season 3 premiere is the best episode of the show.

Best parts were
[Show spoiler]the zombie fight pit, the spoon in the eye, and the rats/wall Walker.

HOLY SHIT! WOW!

Huge spoiler:
[Show spoiler]Serious balls for offing Travis like that right off the bat in episode 2. Shocked.

I've hated on this show, because I feel it's not very good and it definitely doesn't live up to its potential, but I hope season 3 can maintain this quality!

Season 3 two part premiere is a top 10 episode from either show. Wow.

Feels like a reboot to try and bring in some more viewers.

Victor's the best part of the show. I'm glad we're still following him.

My God this show is idiotic.

Pisses me off because some parts are cool (zombie kill sucking soldier guy through drywall) but then they make such monumental storyline blunders.

Travis.
[Show spoiler]Worst death of a character ever
. Like really? The stupidity around that leaves one speechless.
[Show spoiler]Surprise! He's been bitten with half of his abdomen missing
. Guess he was just going to keep that to himself although completely against character and also quite the feat in pain management.

Oh, and Travis the dentist? is apparently able to
[Show spoiler] fend off 100 walkers with nothing but his bare hands and yet soldier girl with her automatic rifle gets overwhelmed by three walkers.

I don't know what they would do without him. Nick has regressed, Alicia has a ways to go, and Madison can be inconsistent. Without Strand they would have major problems with characters many people like enough to invest in another season. Some of the new characters show promise.

??? Hmmmm. That makes sense. But it looked
[Show spoiler]like a walker had gnawed on him.
And given that he had just single handedly
[Show spoiler]dispatched 100 of them
that's what I assumed had happened.

[Show spoiler]
Travis was running on adrenaline but I'm pretty sure soldier girl was overwhelmed by three walkers because it was dark and one probably came out of the bushes and bit her before she had a chance to fire.

Smh.

Travis - completely wrong.

You are truly looking for problems, so perhaps you should just watch something else with your time. The Walking Dead has just as many ridiculous problems. Who cares? ZOMBIE AWESOMENESS.

These two episodes, particularly the first, are the best any Walking Dead TV show has been for a few years now

I'd probably have to agree with this. From a pacing/action standpoint, these first two episodes of Fear have been stellar and certainly on par with anything TWD has done lately, if not better. I'm sure TWD will step up their game in season 8. I hope that they can keep this going on Fear through season 3.
