Default Pioneer Kuro Questions

Hey Guys,

I have a buddy who is looking at plasmas and was asking about which are the best. I told him Pioneer Kuro, but didnt have much info besides that for him. I notice that some are Pioneer Kuro and some are Pioneer Elite Kuro. Can you guys help me with, #1 - the best 50 inch pioneer on the market currently and #2, best bang for your buck with pioneer? Thanks for your help...

For the 50" Pioneers, the "best" would be the Elite Kuro Pro-111FD and the "best bang for the buck" would be the PDP-5020FD (although, you could probably find some PDP-5010's for some pretty good prices).

Pioneer Elite 50" Kuro:

Pioneer 50" Kuro:

I personally have the PRO-111FD. It is about $1000+ more expensive. It is the top of the line and a great set; it has more calibration capabilities inboard and has the speakers on the side instead of the bottom.

Just did a price search on Yahoo. The 5020 is in the $2250 and up range and the Pro-111 is in the $2700 and up range.

I suspect that those are not with US Warranty. They seem too low. I know I could have ordered mine on the internet. When I purchased mine from my local Audio store in July I paid $4600 for the PRO-111.

Pioneer Elite Plasmas could only be sold to customers within 200 miles from a authorized dealer. If you buy from a unauthorized dealer there is no ( 2 year Elite, 1 year non Elite) warranty from Pioneer. The Non Elite model does not have the 200 mile restriction. I think the Elite 200 mile policy sucks but I did manage to find one for a good price from a authorized dealer.

According to many review sites, the new LED LCD's (Samsung 46A950 and Sony 46XBR8) have equal to slightly better blacks and colors than the Pio's, depending on the reviewer. They sell for about the same though.

55" XBR8 review (46" is cheaper)

Samsung A950

Review between the two:
http://www.practical-home-theater-gu...-lcd-tv-2.html

"The black levels on the Sony are just a bit closer to the absolute black level than those on the Samsung."

"CNET Reviews stated that if it were not for some off-angle viewing issues, the Samsung performance would be on par even with the very best Pioneer KURO plasma HDTVs. During side by side tests carried by the CNET editors, the Samsung screen performed just better than the Panasonic plasma, while during instances of content where the screen faded entirely into black, the Samsung screen turned out darker than the Pioneer as the LEDs turned off completely. This is something that is not possible even with the best plasmas due to the persistence of the phosphors used in plasma displays."

etc. etc. etc.

Just a thought..
