You can add "The Guardian" to the list.

Aside from Planet Earth and Discovery Atlas (which are documentaries)...it is the ONLY 16:9/fullscreen movie in my collection of Blu-Ray Discs...which makes me wonder if I were to get a front projector, maybe investing in a good "extra-widescreen" screen would be a better decision

Just a couple on mentions about this thread.

1. If the goal is to just watch movies that fill widescreen HDTV's, the entire notion of Home Theater as a hobby kind of gets lost. You might as well stick with 4:3 DVD's and be happy with your crappy CRT TV.

2. It is bad to propagate this notion with newbs to HDTV because there is already soooo much misinformation and disappointed people who drop down several grand on a plasma just to find out nearly all widescreen films DO NOT fill their 60" display.

3. Film making is an art. Home Theater is about brining that art into the home in a way that has not been available to humankind before.

4. Educate the masses on the differences between screen formats (16:9 vs. 4:3) and aspect ratios (1.33:1, 1.37:1, 1.78:1, 1.85:1, etc...). A good place to begin learning about this is here =>

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/home/wsfaq.html

IMHO... it is not a good idea to begin propagating lists of movies people SHOULD watch. This really dilutes Home Theater and spoils the intended design of the original artwork. The entire community loses.

Educate people to appreciate the art form...and they will.

Thoughts???

I've had a busy couple of weeks lately and haven't been able to update for a long time. In my absence, it seems the thread has kept going, unlike the sister thread in ps3forums.com. I've added one or two movies unto the list per post up from some members. I'm sure there has been newly released/upcoming release movies with full screen 16x9 aspect ratio. If you know of any, please post up so I can get them on the list!

well, i'm sure no one wants to "stick" with regular DVDs and "crappy CRT TVs," just because they have a preference. Also, as you said, to many, it is a small hobby, but just because it is a small hobby with specific preferences, I don't believe we should stick them/us with old tv's and regular DVDs when they have HDTVs and HD players or the means to obtain them.

Also, the purpose of this thread is simply to make a list, and display it to whoever has similar preferences as I do as it seems no other list exists on the web. I am by no means trying to "propagate" this list as a list of movies people "SHOULD" or need to watch.

Again, if anyone can contribute to the list in any way, please post up and keep 'em coming!!!

I believe you can add S.W.A.T. to the list. While watching a blu-ray, it showed a preview of S.W.A.T. and it filled the screen. Is that evidence enough?

Not really. Previews can be from a 1.85 trailer/transfer. (Shown before an 1.85 movie on a theater).

Thanks andytoh for your post! I will put it up at the list to be confirmed or denied. I know how you feel, that's why I put up Flightplan originally as well. I saw it full screen bluray on a preview in one other bluray. But then was confirmed that it wasn't full screen. So Deciazulado could be right. In any case, thanks again and keep dem coming!!!

simplepinoi177,

I'm glad you argued back your perspective. If the community feels a list is a good idea...go for it. I just like to see newbs stay open minded...as I was not in the beginnings of my fun with HT.

Heck...I like to see my screen fully filled too sometimes. Now I know how a woman feels! (sorry babes had to say it)

Why on earth would you use the aspect ratio of a film as a deciding factor in whether you want to watch the film. It sounds like what the original poster is saying is that they are only interested in films which are in a 1.66-1.85:1 aspect ratio which effectively fills their widescreen TV, thereby discounting many excellent films which were shot in the wider ratio's of 2.35-2.55:1.

WHY??????????

Shakes my head in despair. Surely you buy and watch a film on the merits of the film itself, not because it fills your TV screen.

Never does the title say that I'm only interested in films in those aspect ratio. Also, never does it discount all the rest of bluray films because movies that don't fill the full screen of a widescreen TV outweigh those that do like 25:1 (may be exaggerated; not really researched). It is simply a list for those who are interested in seeing which movies are in that aspect ratio and which aren't since no other list of this nature exists elsewhere. I'm sure people will still buy their favorite movie in bluray whether it fills the screen up or not "based on the merit of the film itself". And in the end, who cares if one person's preference is ONLY 16x9 fullscreen blurays, it's their preference and does not in any way impact movies, bluray, or anything else but their own collection and entertainment.

That's what I said. But others seem to disagree.

I really can not understand how someone would not buy a movie....say like...Transformers on Blu-Ray because it doesn't fill up their screen. I just can not fathom it........I guess I am to busy enjoying the movie to notice any bars on the top and bottom but hey that's just me.

BTW I noticed a lot of movies on your list that will not fill up your screen, the best way to tell is look up the movie on IMDB, there it gives what AR the movie was shot in.

Hey, as simplepinoi177 says, this thread is for listing movies that fill 16:9 display's screens. It's just like someone posted/wanted a list of BDs with DD, or BDs in Black and White. If some people have a preference for programs that fill their screen they would like to know which ones do.

There's others threads for discussing OAR and reformatting/cropping etc.

Default Big Update!

Alright! HUGE UPDATE!!!!

Ginormous thanks and props to ruvic2007!!!

I don't know where he got this list and/or if he went out and individually found them blurays wit Aspect Ratios that should fill up a 16x9 display...but crap did he find a jackpot load! He then pmed me his whole list as well as posting up some in the post above...

So here's how the new list will work...I went and filtered through his whole list with movies that weren't already on the existing list. Unfortunately, it's so big that I might've double posted and although I trust ruvic2007's list, I can't be concretely certain that his list really displays in full screen on a 16x9 display.
So what I'm gonna do is put a second list to be confirmed or denied on a trial/temporary basis until i'm more sure. So, as usual, please post up if you can confirm or deny, add or subtract, contribute in any way anything towards the list and of course, keep them coming!!!
