drive not reading discs - Blu-ray Forum

Anybody know about this? I bought a used Original XBOX and disc drive can't read discs I've inserted only DVDs since I do not yet have a game yet.

Does this sound like I should replace the drive? Also anybody know the modding stuff? I might do something like XBMC or something.

Do you have the optional remote control? That is the only way the console will play DVDs.

no but would there be an error to recognize the disc? I'll have to try an audio CD and a game disc whenever I get one.

tried a CD and it acts like it was going to play but then comes up with that error.

Anybody know the drive info and what to get to replace it?

finally got a game Shenmue II and it works in the drive.
this is really weird. I ordered a drive before Shenmue came so now I might not have to use it.

Had to change the drive since Shenmue stop working in the middle of the game and I found out I have an early XBOX with a dreaded Thompson drive so now I should be fine for awhile I hope. Can also play DOA 3 which is the only other game I have.

There must be an error in the disc, sector would not be divided properly.

Back when I had a 360, a launch unit to start with, I had issues with my console putting a perfect circle scratch in one of my Madden games once. Console was never placed vertically as some said that could be the issue, nor was the console ever bumped. I had read somewhere that the launch consoles and basically the first production units not having the DVD optical drive in place properly, and I want to say that what I read stated that Microsoft was aware of the issue but it would have cost a ton of money to delay the console so they went ahead with the release on time. Again it may have just been a bogus news story but after it put that perfect circle into my game disc making the game unreadable, I got rid of the console and got a Slim one later on before jumping to the XBOX One.
