I agree as long as content stays within the realm of "make believe" but would draw the line when laws gets broken.

Excellent film. However, I'm 100% confident that it could have still been a great film with the violence either implied or toned down in the depiction.

It was well written and told story.

How about the scene towards the end of the film, violence is implied when "he" shows up at the house. You still know what happened, right?

I'm about halfway convinced movies like this need to be more violent. People see John McClane or Rambo hit somebody in the head with a table & think it looks cool. Then they get in a fight in real life & end up in jail for manslaughter because the first punch knocked the other guy to the floor & cracked his skull. People go on and on about the violence in movies being irresponsible, but I think the lack of consequences is far more irresponsible.

This is an interesting topic. I don't understand why, but every time there is a movie where a sex scene is just thrown in somewhere in the middle of a movie, I start laughing out loud. Like with the last Final Destination movie or with 300:ROE. It is so awkward and I can't help my self but to laugh....but if the story and scene slowly leads to it then I am ok with that...but if they just all of a sudden just start going at it then I am gonna laugh.

Sex scenes are 99% of the time either used to convince the audience that two characters are in love even though the actors can't sell it, or just as an exploitative device to get people to see the movie at all. Very rarely does a sex scene actually add anything of substance. Can't even remember the last time I saw one that I thought wasn't superfluous.

Restraint is needed and some filmmakers just don't have enough themselves.
Without it you get garbage like Hardcore Henry, Cabin Fever, A Serbian Film, Human Centipede 2 and Fight For Your Life.

Deadpool irked me with its constant sexual jokes and I did not feel that his character loved his girlfriend, rather her private parts.

NO. Just a lazy excuse to be as crude and disgusting as possible while demeaning real life atrocities by claiming the movie is about that.

Did you just lump in Hardcore Henry with Human Centipede 2?

Hardcore Henry's violence is there for a reason. It's meant as a film version of first-person shooter games (its violence is also on the level of films like RoboCop and Hard Boiled). Human Centipede 2 is poorly-done shock cinema born out of a ripoff of the Hostel movies, pure and simple.

Besides, I'd be more worried about those video games (typically played by those who are a. under 17 and b. don't have fully developed brains and therefore cannot process the effects of the violence and the hate speech that comes from their headsets) than a small Russian film.

inorite? I was eight when Grand Theft Auto: Vice City came out, and immediately after playing it, I murdered a prostitute and stole her money.

I felt it went too far, I have yet to see a mainstream FPS that goes to such ludicrous/realistic detail with the gore. Even game like MK or Postal make it jokey and silly. There is a point where it becomes a determinant to the enjoyment of the film.

I love special effects, gore and horror, so I am not against those being in movies. If I want to see blood and death in excess without any emotional attachment, I have the FOD movies and certain websites I can watch.

I feel very few directors are good at balancing bloodshed and sex against a solid story.

What about an instance like that Bully documentary? It basically had violence and language equivalent to what any kid has the potential to hear on a daily basis (and a lot often do), but the MPAA and theater chains basically hampered distribution to its target audience. '

This is another example of why I think ratings boards are out of touch. They may want to protect children on behalf of parents, but a few stray f---s aren't going to ruin a child forever. They allow one in a PG-13 movie now as it is, what's the difference with 2 or 3?

Obviously, you were far too young to play the game, you just didn't get it.

You were supposed to steal a car afterwards ...

Grand Theft Auto is different. It's not a first-person shooter and is single player. FPS (and the headsets and online multiplayer that go with it) on the other hand is an immersive experience and that experience is bound to cause children who play these games to blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy.

And we can debate the media's effects on children all we want but we live in an era where people will do anything for fame or not understand the consequences of things they've done. We are a brainwashed race and denying it just because you aren't or some other narcissistic reason is only going to make things worse.

Lastly, A Serbian Film was trying way too hard to be offensive. It wanted to the ultimate exercise in poor taste and ended up being laughable and an insult to European cinema.

Agree with you on A Serbian Film, not so much with the critique of fame*****s and social media though.

I much prefer it being alluded to, rather than shown. For example, there's a moment in Field of Dreams where Ray is telling Annie how much he wories becoming like his father. After assuring her husband, they kiss, followed by a quick cut to the outside of the house, where the light goes out. Compare that to something like the first Terminator, where Kyle confesses his love for Sarah...followed by a prolonged makeout/sex scene which adds nothing to the story. It could've been much shorter and far less explicit, with Sarah's pregnancy at the film's end still completing the narrative.

Roger Ebert liked the sex scene, it is a bit abrupt but understandable since they are under extreme emotional duress.
