Default Question about DVD Upscale player

I am getting my aunt one for Christmas and I can bundle it with two different HDMI cables, the video and a male to male...Basicaly I need to know is there any real difference in these cables? or should I just take one HDMI cable and not even order the other?

Thanks!

You need to get your aunt a Blu-ray player.

I would if she even watched movies but like 5 times a year, but she has been wanting one for her living room and she has a bravia so I am just getting her this.

Dad gets the blu ray player for his bday

HDMI is always male to male and carries video (and sometimes audio too). So what is the other one look like?

Did you really mean dad has the bravia? Regardless, she should get a Blu-ray player. In a few years, everything is going blu and you will have another player to buy.

but as he said she doesn't watch movies enough for him to justify buying her a blu-ray. plus the fact that grandma might be confused as to why her newish blu-ray won't play. if she doesn't many movies than i'm sure she's not going to know about the firmware thing. it doesn't sound like grandma is super tech savvy. but i could be wrong. anyway, for her the dvd player is the better purchase.

but the added cost isn't worth it if grandma doesn't watch movies more than 5 times a year. if that. some people just don't need anything more than a dvd player. not all are enthusiasts.

Exactly, I am not droping 200+ dollars on someone who watches movies 5 times a year lol.

I just need to know if I need both those cables.

the cable you just posted a link to on Amazon and referred to "as the other one" IS an HDMI cable.

If you have a cable that looks like that, and then a cable that looks nothing like it... the cable that looks nothin like it is not an HDMI Cable.

Ok here is a link to the player

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DVP-NS700...9009534&sr=8-1

Where it says "Frequently Bought Together"

Do I honestly need both cables? maybe this will make it easier haha

So you're saying you don't love her enough to give her the best? Wow... what a family.

j/k man! I know what you mean, my parents wouldn't know what to do with a Blu-ray player either.

I think he was talking about his aunt, not his grandmother.

Of course blu-ray is compatable with DVD. You just put in the disk and it does the rest. As for Firmware updates, she can pass up on that if she wants to. Profile 1.1 and 1.0 are fine for just playing movies. In 5 years, DVD could be on the way out. Someone by then will have a home movie on blu to show her but won't be able to see it on the DVD only player. I notice more and more high def cameras for sale all the time.

You can buy what you want - I was just trying to help out. We had a simular problem when I stood up for getting Grandma DVD over VHS when the digital format was new and the rest of the family was against it because the VCR was something that was familiar and easy to use. The old VHS format died off, and she had to buy a DVD player anyway.

EDIT:
There is the Olevia DB-100 at Target for $149.

Yeah but my aunt has no interest in BD right now, and BD will not kill off DVD as fast as DVD did VHS (but then again I was kinda young so my memory might be wrong)...so in 3 years I will consider getting her a BD player
