-First the media hypes it up and makes the non-owner think it's fun.
-He buys one and tells his friends.
-His friends go over, check it out, and play it. And, to them, it's damn fun because they'll only be playing it for a few hours, at most—not long enough to get tired of the "games."
-They all go out and buy their own Wiis and tell their friends.

It's viral transmission, really.
