I emailed the owner of tvshowsondvd about the content. He said he spoke to someone at Universal and they believe they are releasing the same material as before.

Once Universal locks down a show in a specific format that's it, man. Game over.

They've released Law and Order season 14 at least three times... the same, flawed release every time. Cropped to 1.33 instead of its proper widescreen aspect ratio, and containing syndication edits of the episodes. The original flippers released in 2005, the same incorrect files reused for the single sided complete series release, and then again for the single season release.

The only reason a show like Quantum Leap was fixed for Blu is probably because they remastered it in HD and fixed it then after tons of complaints. But they never did fix the many DVD releases done before Mill Creek licensed the new HD masters.

That's why I was hoping for a Mill Creek blu set all this time.

The seasons are all being remastered in HD. Those, too, are edits. I'm trying to cut them off at the pass before things are released but...no one seems to listen.

If anyone here wants to actually help - tweet. Tweet the creators. Let them know that the current sets are edited. They're OOP. Complaining here will accomplish nothing. Do some research and see if you can find someone at Universal Marketing and home video.

The official youtube page has put up a lot of clips lately. 2 things about that:

1) It now says "Check out episodes of the original Will & Grace, coming soon to iTunes." I can only assume they will be the same screwed up, syndicated cut episodes.

2) Some episodes are 16x9 and some aren't and there's no rhyme or reason to it. Some from Season 4 are and some aren't. Same with 5. So I have no idea what we'll be getting when they come to streaming.

I noticed that as well, and was so disappointed. They could have used to opportunity to remaster the old seasons, but no, same old SD.

At least we'll have the chance to have Season 7 (B) and Season 8 in iTunes HD, I guess...

If they're in 16x9, I'm going to guess that seasons 3-8 will be in HD.

How so? Only part of Season 7 and Season 8 aired originally in HD.
The youtube clips that are available in HD are also from those seasons.

It wouldn't make sense for them to go back and remaster seasons 3-7 and not do the first two.

Edit: They just released a Sneak Peak. A lot of upscaled/cropped scenes from the past seasons

Well, they've now gone back and re-done each season in 16x9 starting with completing Season 7 and the others (4-6) having been released on DVD. Now, with these youtube clips of Season 3, we're seeing the first evidence that it too was re-done in 16x9. Do you think they went back and just did SD versions of those episodes and didn't make HD masters? That's not how it works.

They didn't redo them for the DVDs. There have been widescreen masters for S4-S7 all along. It's how they originally aired in Germany and most likely in the UK as well.

I hadn't noticed those S3 clips. Hum.. I'm assuming those already existed too and simply weren't seen overseas.

Doesn't seem to me like they went back and redid anything, unfortuntely.

Curious on what will end up on iTunes, though!

The entire series has already been aired widescreen in some countries like Italy or South Africa. I saw some episodes from season 1 with original 16:9 format like a year ago, so it is for sure that some kind of conversion has been made...

Clearly with more image compared to the DVDs, they weren't cropped or stretched, you could easily notice they were remasters.
