What I typed doesn't spoil the film.

The film spoils the film.

That wasn't even supposed to be the ending. They just ran out of time and money.

I can only assume that the BBFC were unaware of Nat's age when they passed her nude scene (it's clearly sexualised nudity as she's presented as desirable).

At the time the policy was that underage nude scenes were permissible with the parents' consent as long as they weren't indulging in sexual acts. Of course, that policy didn't take into account having someone like Klaus Kinski as the consenting parent.

What are Studio Canal like for box sets? Chunky Amaray or digipak?

That should mean the BBFC would cut the film today.

The German boxart clarifies 7 discs so definitely no To The Devil...

The ending isn't really spoiled. You could have it spoiled in detailed graphs and diagrams and still not have a bleeding clue what was going on at the end.

In principle, yes.

It was last passed (uncut) in 2006. Not sure if the guidelines have changed since then, but if I were Studio Canal I wouldn't take the chance of a resubmission.

According to the BBFC, 'To the Devil...' was originally submitted on Dec 1st, 1975 (passed 'X' uncut).

According to the IMDb, Nat was born Jan 21st, 1961.

She was still 14(!) when the film was completed.

I don't really get why it doesn't count as child porn. Substantially underage girl with full frontal nudity engaged in sexual acts? Ah well. It's such a ridiculous scene that was probably the last thing on anyone's minds! I guess they could argue it wasn't a sex act since a little demon was involved?

She's not involved in any sexual acts in the shot where she's nude and the sex scene is another actress. It's a gray area since the law on what constitutes indecent imagery in child nudity was changed by the Sexual Offences Act of 2003 which raised the age limit to 18, which would have meant banning Walkabout as child porn (apparently cutting the swimming scene was not an option under the Act: the entire film would have to be banned, all existing copies destroyed and ownership of a copy predating 2003 made a criminal offence), as well as some Disney films like Pollyanna or Robert Mulligan's Man in the Moon (which also have scenes of nude children swimming). It was basically left to the BBFC to determine whether the footage was indecent, which in their guidelines meant lingering shots of genitals, sexual violence, urination and sexual activity. Of course, it's entirely possible that over the years the BBFC examiners just fell asleep long before the last reel...

It's not so much that the film itself spoils the film, and not so much what you were typing as it was what you were thinking that spoils the ending which, when you think about it, has a nude girl while although not engaging in sexual activity herself, you were. So, that raises the question (among other things...) as to whether actually SHE was spoiled at that point or was going to be spoiled in the future, which brings up a good point (among other things...)

You see what happens when you type too much...

I just realized why the UK titles are so expensive. They come with worthless Dvds! The German boxset is the way to go for me!

No, it's just typical SC UK overpricing. They'll drop to their standard £15.99-17.99 for BD-only back-catalogue releases closer to release date. Grisbi, Dunkirk and Le Trou all started with a £22.99 RRP.
