This coming from WB is a pretty big deal as there's all kinds of stuff from the TV cut that wasn't incorporated into the 2000 extended cut.

Having time to process this news, my big question is WHURS SUPERMAN TWO!? Given that some stuff exclusive to the SII TV cut randomly showed up on the DigitalHD Donner Cut in scope and HD for the first time recently it stands to reason that they might have done some work toward that as well.

Great post i just wish this would come out in the uk it will be a long wait

Both the theatrical cut and the extended cut are less than optimal Bds, no doubt hampered by the constrictions of having been authored to fit 30GB HD DVD as well (a least that goes for the extended cut). I notice in comparing the two directly, that fine detail waxes and wanes in different shots across the two versions. I can't help but think that's a bit rate anomaly.
The nice thing about having this come from WA instead of the regular studio label, WA has put a primacy on PQ/AQ in the past. That's something that's been hit and miss from the regular studio brand releases for catalog.

I just wish the theatrical cut was getting a revisit and fine tuning as well. The 40 minutes of extra footage is interesting to watch once or twice, but the pacing of the original feature I still often find superior to most sequences in the extended cut
Or why not have these TV cuts incorporated into a big bad UHD Supes set? It feels weird to see this announced on its own, especially from WAC who really have no business being involved in a Superman movie Blu-ray.

Maybe it's going to be in the new box, and this is for people who already have the old anthology set and wouldn't want to rebuy the box for just the new discs (which would sort of explain why it's Archive and not in-store too).

If so what does that say for the 99% of their back-catalog that is less marketable? What does that say about the state of home video year of our lord 2017? It's weird. It would make sense to see Supergirl from WAC, not so much Superman: The Movie.

You did not read it correctly:

Decades before blockbuster Extended Cuts were common, Superman proved a true “Man of Tomorrow.” Superman: The Movie received an ahead-of-its-time makeover for its television premiere – nearly 40 more minutes of story, creating a two-night television event. Audiences had already been swept off their feet by Christopher Reeve’s Last Son of Krypton, and now there was more to enjoy. Unseen in decades, this version is paired here with Richard Donner’s definitive vision of his film, the Special Edition Director’s Cut (2000), to create a supersized celebration of Metropolis’ favorite son that preserves the director’s intent while feeding superfan demands.

Seems pretty clear to me that it's the TV version.

Correct.

I'm almost 100% certain that WHV has given up on their pre-DCEU superhero movies besides The Dark Knight Trilogy. If that means that WAC will actually give these titles a little more TLC than a standard repackaging would entail, I'm all for it. I realize there are no special features for this 3-hour cut, but without WAC, we wouldn't have a blu-ray of the 3-hour cut anyways.

Based on the references on the IMDb page, I believe he is making the distinction between the "Salkind International Extended Cut" (188 minutes) which was prepared for TV and the ABC-TV cut (182 minutes).

There are two versions of the TV Cut. There's the 182 ABC version and there's the 188 International TV Cut. That's what he's talking about. Not the difference between the theatrical and this cut.

EDIT: thatguamguy beat me to it !

What it says is that more and more people are buying online these days, so whether it comes from "WHV" or "WAC" really doesn't matter. The kind of person who doesn't know or care about the differences between the different versions of the movie is more than likely to be content with whatever version on whatever format they already have.

I'm just going by the wording on the 1st post of the thread which intimates that they are one and the same.

Wow. I'm not beholden to the TV cut like some folks might be but as a Supes fan this is a no-brainer regardless. Doesn't bode well for getting pre-DCEU Supes on UHD if they're farming this out to WAC but I'll take what I can get.

Verr naice!

I'm not inferring anything, I'm referring to the OP. If that is incorrect, contact whoever provided that information and have them amend it.

You are inferring, based on the original post, that Mifune is wrong when he says that this cut of the film is longer than the ABC TV cut. You are wrong.
The original post references "188 minutes". The ABC cut is 182 minutes. This isn't rocket science, it's pretty basic math.

I was not aware that there was a 188 minute version AND a 182 minute version until you pointed it out. I was merely referring to the OP which intimates that they are one and the same. When MifuneFan made his comment, he did not specify anything about a 188 minute version versus a 182 minute version either, adding to the misunderstanding.

In your zeal to be belligerent, perhaps you should step back and take a minute to actually comprehend what is being said.
