You can't AFAIK. Looks like my player has permanently engaged its Off Timer if this firmware update has gone tits up...

...oh, wait. Does "E DISC" mean "remove USB stick"? I've just turned the player back on and it's fine

[edit] The firmware hasn't updated though. How queer. I guess I'll just download it again and try once more...

^^^ The UB900 uses Panasonic's Uniphier chipset which according to a site which I won't mention is "firmware update failure proof".

And I'm very glad about that because I'd have a bricked player otherwise! I decompressed the firmware to another USB stick and this time it worked fine, I've now got FW 1.77 and the HLG to PQ conversion is indeed included now. But it won't work on my TV anyway because it can already decode HLG, the conversion won't apparently kick in unless the TV is incapable of playing back HLG.

I updated the firmware of my 704 (same chipset and firmware as the 900) just once so far and (coming from the Oppo 93) was slightly shocked by how big today's firmware updates are and how long it took to update. Will skip the 1.77 because it only mentions network stuff which I don't need.

But it's good to know that a firmware update failure really doesn't smoke the player.

I was wondering, I have a late 2016 model LG OLED, is it still best to output to 10 bit? Sorry if it's a silly question

Other picture adjustments (except the mentioned edge correction) I would leave at 0 and use the TVs settings to make changes if neccessary.
How do you do that? thx.

Okay, I don't see edge correction as an option on the player menu. Can you tell me how to access it? thx again.

That's not a silly question, it's a great question. I've been trying to discover the same info about my Vizio P75-c1 for most of the morning and had no luck. Anyone out there who can steer myself and Hucksta in the right direction, I would be much obliged. thx.

I believe when you're playing a movie you push picture settings on your remote and it takes you to a page of settings, I think it's in one of those. Hard to say without my player and TV in front of me haha

Yes. 10 bit output is the best for LG OLED. You get rid of tons of banding on blu-ray. Didn't see as much improvement for UHD though.

That's pretty good. I heard it could shift, but I read the manual and it doesn't mention it. Not about the luminance. Does anyone have a better instructions link?
On the resize though, is that just Blu-ray with the rendered subs as opposed to UHD where they aren't anymore?

During disc playback just press the subtitle button on the remote. This will bring up the subtitle options sub menu where you can adjust the position and luminance.

That is a great function. Just wish I could save that as a preset. I always go -16 for shift and -3 for luminance. There are few exceptions depending on the title.

Wait, you can adjust the luminance? That is a great feature as there are a couple of titles I own that have way too bright subtitles.

Not been near the settings on the Panafonics since I stood Geoff's sharpness settings.
But I just had a look see and there is a dynamic range setting for HDR?
Is that new?

Ages ago then!
Is it worth playing with?
