Oh gawd, that release is completely unlistenable and shouldn't even be on the market... I was astonished to find that they re-released it later and it was still like that!

As was I! You'd think they'd have fixed it. Proves Shock have no real QC, we're lucky they haven't screwed up many more.

I have two BBC2 HD recordings, from 30 December 2013 and 21 February 2015, of "The Abominable Snowman" on an external HDD.

(Why two? I haven't got round to editing them yet - not the film itself but the few minutes of extraneous recording time either side. The earlier recording is a slightly larger file despite being a few minutes shorter in length, so must be higher video and/or audio bit rate. I'm in Scotland, where I believe Freeview audio bit rates were reduced a few years ago to free up broadcast bandwidth for exclusive Scottish content)

I have a USB Freeview HD tuner and am still running good old Windows Media Center (Windows 8.1), therefore I can still record HDTV and keep it indefinitely and edit at my leisure, like we all used to do with our obsolete VHS machines...though not in HD, of course.

The Japanese Blu-ray is also 1080i and is apparently the American, shorter cut of the film "...of the Himalayas" (although with the shorter, original British title). If you watch your nice crisp BBC2 HD film, you'll see a few times where the quality drops to standard definition, even mid-scene. I think these minutes are all missing from the Japanese disc.

I also have two recordings of "X - The Unknown", also from BBC2 HD, and I can confirm that with each, the entire film is upscaled SD, though perfectly watchable and with no audio issues that I have detected.

Well, then you should LOVE the new underground movie where Markgway was secretly filmed while watching a 15 year old Nastasja Kinski...

So, if you like 'intimate' and 'small', well, I think you should be set...

The latter seems to be the business model for SC in the UK. Your cheapest option is to buy them all in the HMV 2 for £25 deal where they are currently, or sit it out and watch for the price drops.
Problem with SC titles are that unlike many other labels where the price drops permanently after a few months theirs drop for a short time then go back up often with drops only happening at one retailer at a time so you need to keep an eye out all the time.
Personally I've gone for the German set + To The Devil from HMV

I think they will be direct ports but may wait for the releases and reviews before buying the German box, just to be 100% positive.

I'll probably go that route, too.
Obviously I cannot be 100% certain but I am confident that not only will the transfers be identical they will be exactly the same discs. Likely a language menu will be the first thing to appear and once you choose English the disc will be identical to the UK releases although packaging and probably disc labels may be in German.
As the German release is also from Studio Canal this seems very likely.
When that has not panned out before it's been because the German release has come from another company

OHHHHHH C'mon Markgway...! Since when in all the comments I've seen you post have you NOT had a sense of humour...

Sorry, couldn't resist the particular wording of some of the comments

BUT... if you don't appreciate it, I won't be a'doin' it...

Seriously...? I honestly thought they were kind of clever...

You see, you take someone's words and then skew them a little and the result is hopefully humourous... BUT... I guess not...

I just don't take myself nearly as seriously as others seem to, I guess. For the life of me, I cannot see ANY offense taken by plays on words and situations. Isn't that one of the very things that we enjoy in films we watch...?

Oh well, no more of that then... People are far, FAR too serious here...

It's called 'teasing' guys...

May I humbly recommend sometime that you 'serious' guys watch an episode of Conan when Martin Short in on there. I've never seen Conan laugh SO hard as when Martin is totally insulting him. Absolutely hilarious! And, let's not forget our dear, late, revered Don Rickles...

Oh, I have a sense of humour. I'm usually near the front of the queue to make a quip. But I felt that your comments (in relation to Nat Kinski) were more creepy than funny and easily misconstrued as accusation. If I'm off on this, then fine, but the vibe I got from your posts (and some others previously) wasn't cool.

Yeah, the "teasing" involving implications of underage sex was very dodgy stuff to read!

Anyone know why Dracula AD 1972 from Germany is not available from amazon Germany in the non-media-book ?

https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01...f_rd_i=desktop

It is just by a 3rd party seller and fulfilled by amazon but they still do not ship it to the USA at 14.49 euro (great price )

I do not collect media-books and just want the amaray case

Also is it worth getting or is there something in the works with a USA label, WB etc.. ? The disc is only 1080i .....

Although the 1080i means it's 50hz which might be a problem on US displays the fact that it's 1080 is the important thing. The quality is very good although I would expect a US release , probably from Warner Archive at some point.
Now 2 years since their first collection of Hammer titles so we must summise sales were not how they hoped so while a general release might not happen it surely will appear on WA. How patient are you?

They cared enough to stop Thunderbean taking any more orders for their upcoming Bluray of Satanic Rites from a 35mm print. The optimist in me says it's because they have another set on the way. The pessimist in me says it was because they are arses.
