Yeah, they started that BS at my local Wal*Mart back in June (see attached pic). I don't shop there anymore for anything, haven't been there in months (and I generally loathed shopping there at all because of the general type of people that I always saw there).

It's kind of a dickish thing to do, but... buy the local copy with slipcover at full-price. Wait for the Amazon order. If the Amazon order comes with a slip, return the Wal*Mart copy. Otherwise, return the Wal*Mart copy without the slip. As long as it's not opened, they won't blink.

Would have thought an upgrade to AVC and DTS-HD MA or Dolby True HD 7.1 (being 20th Anniversary and all), would have been the go.

Bad trend that's happening. Blade Runner UHD's 1080pBD was also the same 10yo VC-1, highly compressed (16.88 Mbps) transfer that needs an upgrade, badly.
I can understand E.T UHD being the same 1080p disc (only came out a few years back), but Starship has a new 4K scan, so having a new BD transfer accompanying the 4K BD makes sense. Missed opportunity.

Really hope they don't pull that shit with Terminator 2 UHD and we get a newly minted 1080p transfer, 'cos the current Studio Canal VC-1 transfer in the Skynet edition is a waxy DNR'd mess.
Worse yet, from what I'm hearing the new Close Encounters blu-ray that ships with the UHD is worse than the old disc thanks to some heavy black crush, and that's a brand new blu-ray from the new master. So either they give us the old blu-rays from old releases or in some cases the new blu-rays are actually worse. That's disappointing for those of us who don't yet have a player (like me) but are future-proofing and would like to enjoy the new blu-ray until we get a player.

Can anyone comment on the video quality? I've seen complaints about the UHD transfer. But I've also seen the same complaints about Close Encounters on 4K.

At $9.51 this seems hard to pass up.

The blu ray is just the same old version.

Plenty of discussion in this thread. All depends how you feel about grain really.

I'm a few minutes away from one, so I just went over there to try.

I was also going to re-buy Close Encounters 4K and return it w/ my previous receipt.

Oh well if I'm able to get to a BB later, I'll PM Starship Troopers 4K or both over there.

Trying to avoid putting together a free shipping order from Amazon and then getting a copy without a slipcover.
With Close encounters I did notice something, they had a different bar code as a sticker on the sealed copy, I'm guessing amazon will not have that, I wonder if its going to be an issue.

I am definitely not a video expert, but I was personally impressed overall by the Starship Troopers presentation. I love grain, and this presentation definitely delivered that. The only complaint I have is that the HDR seemed to push reddish skin tones in the first few scenes, but either my eyes adjusted or they dialed that back for most of the rest of the movie. Also, the higher resolution makes some of the CGI look more dated.

This looked more-or-less like the Starship Troopers I saw twice in the theatre and numerous times on VHS and DVD (I never owned the Blu-ray), but with WAY more clarity and definition

For reference, I watched this with an LG UP970 outputting to a 2016 55" LG OLED.

Called regular number. Got the following price matched: Starship Troopers, Van Helsing, and Smurfs!!! 2 were in-store purchases so I have to wait for "low price guarantee" department to verify or something. Either way - to save some money, why not take a few minutes and do this?

Thanks aga
Now - have tried target chat twice but both times said no agent available. I am trying to match Wonder Woman 4k, which is now 23.27!!

Saw it at the cinema in a fairly empty theatre on my day off way back when. Loved it then, still love it. Verhoeven's ultra-violence mixed with his in your face directing makes for a fun ride (much like Robocop and Total Recall).

Would still have liked a new 1080p transfer to accompany the UHD, thanks to the new 4K scan.

Close Encounters also has noticeably different black levels (much darker in the new 1080p transfer).

Oh well. No great loss.
Would have been all over it had their been a new 1080p transfer... I'm future proofing, but will be a few a year or two before I go the 4K way.

Keep an eye out, it'll drop again at some point. Maybe not that low though.

Still pissed there's not a new transfer for the 1080p disc (did I forget to mention that before ).
There are still many cinephiles that haven't gone UHD yet and distributors producing new 1080p transfers for older 4K titles will entice a larger market (Even at $9.50 you couldn't get me to buy it with the old BD disc).

Would have bought Blade Runner and Starship Troopers had they done what they oughta.

If the deal ended while it was literally in my cart I would have called Amazon and asked them if they would honor it.
