Sometimes less is more.

A great shot has more to do with the framing, spacing, and vision of the cinematographer than the aspect ratio.

Like the last of the image comparisons or the one of Gosling in the car. When you have more space to look at, you also can be distracted by other things on the screen that are there only in excess.

Don't know why, but the expanded aspect ratio reminds me a bit of Prisoners with a more hardcore sci-fi setting.

It's gorgeously framed, so I'm good with the 2.39:1

Well, same director and DP. Makes sense they'd look similar.

None of those in my area. Memphis has 12 Malco theaters & two run by Ajay. Would love to have one of the big chains open here.

Was Deakins the cinematographer for the first two film shorts?

Going to be watching this at the cinema. Waiting for the Blu and avoiding spoilers in the meantime is going to be too much of an ask. I'm glad the release of the film in the UK is before half term. I'll be booking a day off work to catch the first screening. Lovely stuff.

I wouldn't worry too much about the kids, even if they wanted to see it, it's a hard R/solid 15 here.

The kids are fine. It's the yoots that end up spoiling it for others. It's not even overt. Just chatting and general misbehaviour. I'm guessing the first screening will be attended by mostly keen fans, so I think that'll be cool. A crowd of like-minded enthusiasts is great fun to be around when watching a film. I can't imagine there'll be any Star Wars-esque hollering when the titles come up, lol.
