Default Looking For A Blu-ray Player

Ok I am getting my dad a bd player for christmas and really cant decide on what to get since I use my ps3 and have never even used a stand alone before right now I am looking at the Sony BDP-S350 @ amazon for 270. and u get a free copy of hancock not sure if this is any good but had good reveiws..... I wanted to get the Sharp bd player because it will be used on a Aquos but the reviews are not that great so if anyone has any suggestions for one under $300 that would be great

This player is very good from what i have heard and read on multiple threads. My question for you is your Dad going to connect it to a receiver and what kind of receiver he has.Because if he is looking forward for lossless sound bear in mind this player can only decode DolbytrueHD through HDMI and not DTSHDMA.If he has an older receiver choose between Panasonic BD-55 or Sony BDP-S550.

Good Luck

If he has a receiver that decodes or takes PCM, take a look at the Panasonic DMP-BD35. Most reviewers find its picture to be a little better than the Sony. You should be able to find it for less than the Sony.

In this case i assume both are the same as far as PQ but in sony case you have at least a free movie which has an incredible PQ.Have it at home and enjoy it for Hancock BD.its up to you to decide.Kindly read The Panasonic thread to get general information about it.

between the Sony and panny there are not huge differences other then the panny is getting slightly better reviews for upscaling and the internal decoding of both codecs. Outside of that I couldn't say there are many other huge differences. If none of that really matters then you can just go for which ever is cheaper.

You are welcome ,I made a deal for Sony player and i should get commission anyway here i'm kidding.Happy shopping and enjoy it.I'm afraid after you experience the 1st standalone BD player you will go and buy one for yourself to sit beside your PS3.You know get jealous.

Happy holidays and merry Christmas enjoying BLU-RAY

Yeah, that's what I thought too. The only reason I even looked was to see if they might price match amazon, but the lady was like we have it for 239.00.
