For me, that was Live By Night. Three separate times during that film, people had to wake some guy up because he was snoring so loudly

I remember a guy passing out during Rob Zombie's Halloween and snoring just about all the way through. Couldn't blame him.

I don't know how anyone can watch Blade Runner 2049 and not care about Ryan Gosling's character.

It's clearly his story, and one in which he is emotionally, psychologically, and physically beaten throughout.

[Show spoiler]I was totally in his corner the moment he walked into the police station and winced when some random guy (cop?) leaned in and called him a skinjob (or something to that effect).

And as the film opens up, and you begin to learn more and more about his life (he's in love with a hologram, his memories may or may not be his own) and what he has to be constantly subjected to (that damn baseline test), it's impossible not to feel some empathy for this guy.

You know Deckard is a Replicant when
[Show spoiler]he continued to drink for over 30 years without any alcohol poisoning.

What is happening; 163 minutes is less than The Lord of the Rings.
They invested so much on advertising and marketing making the total cost roughly $300 million for Blade Runner 2049. Can it recoup its investment, worldwide?
Transformers 5 was a rentable/profitable sci-fi flix, very. Can BR 2049 surpasses it in financial smartness?

[Show spoiler]I also found myself wishing K really was the child of Deckard and Rachel. I wanted it to be true, even though I realised on another level that it's just not that type of film. I wanted his memories to be not implants but real. Btw, were the allusions to Pinocchio a real thing, or was i just imagining things? I'm certain the female holographic character (her name escapes me) mentions "a real boy" on a couple of occasions.

Well, I slept through most of The Beguiled. I really hope I wasn't snoring though.

What I saw, I liked. But I had slept like 3 hours in the last 72 and was just totally beat. Sofia's one of my favorite directors, and the film had some of my favorite actors and actresses in it. But sleeping for like 3 hours -- broken up mind you -- over three days, and sitting in a dark theater ... bad.

I saw the film last night & my first impressions are positive. I think it was worthwhile. I don't think it reaches the heights of the original aesthetically or poetically but I didn't expect it to. It showed respect to the original while picking up the story & adding to it. I think they did a man's job with 2049. I need to see it a few more times to finalize my thoughts but I had a good experience with it on first viewing. As a fan of the original that's a huge complement.

Well, at least we won't get a sequel about the
[Show spoiler]replicant resistance.

There's a poetic effortlessness to the original that's not present in the sequel. The shorter running time probably has a lot to do with it. Things like cadences and rhythm perhaps come into the equation. But that's not a black mark against 2049. It's a slightly different type of film. The best line I've heard a professional reviewer use to to describe the film is, "No Country for Old Replicants."

Mad Max Fury Road had a disappointing box office; but guess what? It’s still a good movie and I still like it.

You can’t force people to watch something but those that do are in for a treat.

I'm surprised at the reports of European box office tracking being low. My cinema was heaving both times I've seen it.

Thinking about how Blade Runner 2 was so much slower and more drawn out than Blade Runner I'm really hoping this crew doesn't go and make a super slow and boring Dune. Also not surprised that the $50+ million predictions are not coming to pass, hopefully this means no Blade Runner 3.

Absolutely. Part of that is Gosling -- whom I obviously very much like. But part of that is the arc of his character.

[Show spoiler]Like you, I was so wishing that he was the child, he was unique "person" who was living a life no one else had. When he finds out that it's not the case, even though part of me almost knew that would be the case, it was devastating. He had been led around in so many directions.

Yes, it was a beautiful and fascinating and incredibly well-made film. But for me it was very emotional, too. He was SO sure. I'm tearing up a little just thinking about this now, to be honest.

Man, when you think about his response to the "61021" carving on the tree when he first sees it, and his response when he realizes it wasn't referring to him -- that's some cold $#&^ right there.

Nah.
[Show spoiler]I've been drinking heavily for 30+ years. And a couple of weeks ago I had a multi-faceted blood test at my doctor's. I was -- and I mean this honestly -- shocked that my liver and kidneys seemed to be in, again honestly fine shape. There was nothing wrong with the results at all. I couldn't believe it.

I really thought my liver results would be off the charts horrible.

Fury Road amassed nearly $380M worldwide. If BR nabs half that I'll be amazed.

Hahaha. That's pretty funny. Yeah, it is a bit different while keeping the formula the same. That was a good thing. I'll also add that Officer K is so different from what was in the original film (my vagueness is purposeful).

And I thought that MM:FR was boring and at times ridiculous. I get why people enjoy it. I'm just never going to be one of those people. Whereas BR2049 was genius to me.

When I see people mention MM:FR, and I don't mean this as a diss or am I trying to just be a jerk -- this is the truth -- I remember two things primarily: Some guy with a guitar that shoots fire, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley pregnant. That's it. I really have no idea what it was supposed to be ABOUT.

All good, all good, but my comment wasn't anything to do with what you or anyone else up in here thought of the movie as a piece of entertainment. Uh...thanks for sharing, I guess?
