Saw the announcement of The Breakfast Club at work yesterday and immediately thought, "I'm staying out of that thread."

[Show spoiler]You have five individuals who couldn't be any more different, forced to spend a Saturday afternoon together in detention. Absent their peers, the stigma associated with their individual social circles begins to break down, and these kids discover that they are really more alike than they could have possibly imagined. They realize that, regardless of their athletic ability, their intellectual capabilities, or familial economic status, they face many of the same fears about the future. The rough edges that distinguish them, and have separated them, begin to soften. And in the final scene, as John Bender walks off across the football field, the group, through Brian's writing, express solidarity, and a newfound understanding, and acceptance, for each other. The ending is what the entire film is about! It's about the growth of the individual, and looking at your world through the eyes of those around you. And when Bender raises his fist, in that last second, it is a realization of self-empowerment.
...and all of that is 100% undermined by what they did with Ally Sheedy's character! Not to mention
[Show spoiler]Ringwald getting together romantically with Bender, though that's at least believable.

I'm not even sure why any regulars are shocked at The Breakfast Club being announced, it was hinted at in a very obvious newsletter clue recently.

Took the plunge last year and couldn't be happier. The only downside is that once you get into it, you need some self-discipline as there are so many great titles available. My unwatched pile has grown exponentially.

It was either 220, or Bombay Electronics. I went with the latter; a Sony fulfilled through Amazon for extra transaction protection. Not that I needed it as the player has been flawless.

I got my region free player from Sears online for like $70. I got the Seiki SR4KP1. Not sure if you can still get one there, though.

My $30 Insignia region free player still works, knock on wood. I thought it had crapped out earlier this year, but it was an HDMI cable issue. If/when it dies, I wouldn't have any issues spending $150+ plus for one from 220 Electronics, Bombay, or even from Amazon's marketplace. It's an investment, but considering the amount of films and freedom it opens you up to, it's worth it.

Supposedly so. A thread was already made in the deals section, not sure if there was any official word on it though. We'll know in 2 hours

The flash sale is indeed active. I tend to wait for these flash sales to purchase the majority of the Criterion titles I want, so I just caught up on the July through October titles...

The Breaking Point
Hopscotch
Sid and Nancy
Rebecca
Othello
Barry Lyndon

It looks like Criterion's website still hasn't fixed the issue from last December with the gift certificate deal... today's purchase put me over the next $500 I've spent on their website, but they still show me 100 pts behind in regards to when my next rewards certificate is due.

Same here. Maybe they'll reward once they ship?

The email with the gift certificate usually arrives shortly after hitting $500... I've gone back and used the certificate immediately in the past. So this will probably require an email to Criterion.

Yeah, I would if I was you. I was awarded a gift card after my order. It took about 15 minutes or so to arrive. But my points are definitely accurate after both purchases I just made.

I'll wait a bit to see if it arrives. My point total on the website is accurate at 1,519. But the points to go until my next rewards certificate is 100 pts behind (showing 81 pts to go), due to the $100 gift certificate purchase last December when they had that special.

I'm tempted to give The Lure a try. I like wild ambition. Anyone else gonna give it a go?

Hmmm, that's strange it hasn't changed. It must be a glitch with your account. But I'm sure it's an easy fix for them. Good luck!
