I pretty much hated American Gangster, wanted my money back after seeing it.

Definitely recommend The Godfather Trilogy. The movies are absolutely beautiful, visually and artistically.

I also recommend Goodfellas, a great movie with a great transfer.

man i cant believe NO ONE has metioned King of New York one of Christopher Walkens greatest roles. Its one of the classics of gangster films right up there with Goodfellas and Casino. Other ones worth metioning are Belly one of my all time faves and lucky number slevin even tho its not your typical mob film it has mob things in it. I really enjoyed Unsual Suspects too even tho the source wasnt great so the transfer was alright for what it was.

I also would like to reiterate the choices others have made here. I recommend:

1. Goodfellas
2. The Godfather
3. The Godfather part II
4. Reservoir Dogs
5. Donnie Brasco
6. The Departed
7. Casino
8. American Gangster (Unlike some others here, I enjoyed the film. The only problem is Denzel Washington's acting: it's too subdued and not passionate enough. But the movie is good.)
9. The Untouchables

If you like "film noir" type crime thrillers, I would also recommend:

1. Memento
2. L.A. Confidential
3. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

Also, while they're not technically gangster or crime films, I would look into watching...

1. Dog Day Afternoon
2. Bullitt

Me too......... with my Netflix Rental.....

The Departed, and American Gangster are the only "Mafia/Gangster" movies on blu-ray that have been listed that I don't either own, or plan on owning.

Training Day is not really a mob film, its more about police corruption.

Dont bother with American Gangster. The entire movie should have been about Frank. Splicing it with the life and times of the cop who bagged him was a complete blunder on Ridley's part. I lost all interest in the movie whenever his boring story would come on screen. And please stop putting rappers in movies, Hollywood. Please. There's something about seeing Common Sense/T.I./whoever on screen that just takes me completely out of the film instantly.

Highly recommend the Godfather trilogy (dont watch the 3rd one....you'll live happily after, trust me.) Also Goodfellas. Casino has its moments, but Ginger's character nearly kills the movie for me. I'm sorry, I have a hard time believing a man of Ace's stature would be that *****-whipped and simped out over a glorified hooker.
