Too bad Sony didn't put out that combo pack out in The States.

I had to order Blood Wars and RE: Final Chapter from UK for 3D, but they came with these lovely soft slipcovers.

Then I bought a Sony X800 player and they gave me both movies in 4K for free.

Just watched Despicable Me 3. as a big fan of the first 2, this one was terribly disappointing. story, animation, dialog, 3D, .. all mediocre at best. i had high hopes because as a child of the 80's, Trey Parker's villain sounded like it was going to be a lot of fun, but .. nope. no reason to own this one.

Just watched Spiderman Homecoming.

Near reference quality 3D. Great depth. It took me a while to get into the film since I'm not exactly high school age but as the story went along it began to hold my interest and I got more into it.

Again, great 3D. If one gets dizzy with heights, skip the Washington monument scene. LOL.

Also got my copy of Young Detective Dee Rise of the Sea Dragon in the mail today.

I enjoyed it more than when I saw it in theaters where I was forced to watch it in only two dimensions. The 3D was stronger than I anticipated after reading so many lackluster reviews and is probably why I liked it better this time around. The opening scenarios describing the curse looked really good and there were other moments here and there that really stood out like the plane crash. I don’t remember any pop outs but most scenes had plenty of depth and I didn’t notice any ghosting or no cross talk.

The movie itself is entertaining and I want to like the concept of a monster-verse but it was just missing something... It was not a horror movie because it was never truly scary (it never made me jump or hold my breath) and it was devoid of the humor that made the other Mummy movies so entertaining, so I guess it was an adventure film. It missed the mark there though as well because the scope was so specific. I’m hoping it was simply laying the groundwork for more epic films to come.

I’m glad I purchased it and I’m glad to have this film in my 3D collection. It’s not a bad movie and I rather enjoyed watching it... there was just some spark missing. Does Dianetics offer a solution for this?
Hi Shaggy,

Right before I started getting into 3D there were films I didn't really enjoy all that much when watching on cable. But then used copies were available cheap on the web so I got a few and then some became my favorites.

Pacific Rim for instance. Turned it off in the middle when watching it pancake.

Just shows what 3D can do.

I order this one 'sight unseen', but my son love minions.

I had all the movie previously and slowly upgraded them to 3D as copies appeared.

Getting animation movies in 3D, even as a double-dip, has always been worth it for me.

Anyway, I hope it's not as bad as you say here with DM3 3D...

Watched Paranorman 3D with my son last night.

I was worried he might be scared, but he seemed to relate well to Norman.

The menu 3D seemed nice and strong, but the movie 3D seemed more mild-ish.

Used an LG Manual 3D boost to compensate, used -2/+14 in settings as I recall.

The character models show a lot of character, but may not be everyone's cup of tea.

The story is fairly simple, you could almost see this being more of a short concept.

The thing that bugged me though, was the harsh and very restrictive letterboxing.

This is one of those movies where you're constantly aware of what you're not seeing.

This one's OK if you can get it around $10, but open 1.85 ratio would've been much better.

Hey guys,

Congratulations to Shaggy on this most prestigious moment of his life!

But there are a lot of shaggys, Kurosawas, Joe D's and others out there making 3D viable as a profit making venue. If not, we would not see the blu ray discs here in the united states, even limited or added to the 4k releases, nor the numerous theater productions plus its popularity in Europe and Asia.

Its got a niche following. Those who felt the country had to go 3D crazy, they're the ones saying it's dead.

I watched Thor Ragnarok in theaters, and although it's not on blu ray yet, I found the 3D to be very, very strong. Great conversion in my opinion.

That’s refreshing to hear. I still cite Thor: The Dark World as perhaps my worst personal 3D theatrical experiences ever, so it’s good to hear the new one is an improvement.

The Washington monument scene was an excellent application of 3D!

to be fair my expectations were probably high because i like the franchise. kids will probably love it. it just lacked the depth (emotional and visual) of the first two, for me.

watched The Little Mermaid. they did a great job converting this one! not a ton of depth (like most Disney 3D), but it definitely made the movie more engrossing. beautiful animation. i liked it more than The Lion King conversion. it's a shame they won't be converting any more of their classics due to poor sales

next up, Beauty and the Beast (1991).

Watch The Lion King 3D last week after Robert Guillaume passed away. I was surprised at how decent the 3D felt for a 2D animated film, and that they avoided it feeling like a pop-up book, but instead added subtle depth.

Just ordered Batman Lego movie.

Though it was a kiddie film but read all the great reviews about how funny it is, saw some trailers and read of the incredible 3D that went into this animated movie.

Saw it will be on HBO next week and so might be added to its on demand 3D schedule. But cable 3D lacks the full dynamism of bluray.

Couldn't agree more with this post. Watched UK version yesterday & the film & 3D are really disappointing.

They had the chance to make this one on par with the first with Trey Parker's character, but it just doesn't go anywhere, instead the majority of the film is spend with the Dru character who is just meh.

As for the 3D, considering the previous 3 in this series has some of the best 3D this one is really disappointing. Yes there is nice depth to the image throughout but there are soooooooo many opportunities for great pop-out moments like the previous films seemed excelled at, but it's like the 3D has been dialled back for this film & as 3D in general seems to be on its way out I doubt we'll see another Despicable Me in 3D. Saying that, if it's like this from now on then it's not a great loss to be honest.
