By coincidence, it was also Journey To The Center of The Earth! But it's a strange story. Never saw a 3D film in the theater yet was always interested in 3D for the home. However, when 3D came out I already had a Sony KD34XBR960 which was reference quality for it's time, being it was still a crt. So like it was for many, 3D would be something down the road. Now, my version of "Journey" was the DVD which came with the anaglyth glasses. Saw this on my 360 and even with the triple crosstalk that first home theater experience just blew me away! So while initially depressed when my 960 died back in 2015, it gave me a reason to finally pursue 3D. So with a set and player in my possession, what began with that anaglyth version of Journey exploded into total insanity! ![]() Last edited by Joe D.; 11-10-2017 at 02:48 AM. |

I sincerely believe that others could become just as insane as we did if they had that first glimpse. That's why I felt it was important to point out that triple crosstalk on the DVD didn't phase me at all.. Some had suggested it would be enough of an eyesore to turn people off to 3D. Not at all. What I saw with eye popping effects was something I never saw from a TV before and was easily worth the trade off. Then bought polar express and was happy to find the two three stooges shorts in the boxed set I got. Also realized such crosstalk would not be the case with the newer technology. Plus the 3D would have to be even better. That's why I once thought a great way to get more people into the fold would have been for a station like Turner classic movies to air some of those great fifties films in 3D using anaglyph technology. They could promote the airings way in advance to give viewers time to get multiple pairs of glasses through TCM or even at theaters showing 3D for a nominal cost. No matter the drawbacks with imaging, etc., I think the experience would be what would impress people most. These films could also air periodically on TNT and TBS, along with Journey, polar Express and others. Why not?, as bluto would ask ![]() Its a small thing but if aired often enough, its one way to help promote 3D and get it slowly put back as a feature in some sets and players in the long term, as long as the industry counts only on modest and not high expectations. |
