It's a better way of encoding video information than traditional component video as used up 'til now... less prone to errors. It was designed for the wider color gamuts of P3 and Rec 2020. You can add it to Dolby Vision without messing up the specs. or writing new ones because of DV's core + extension file architecture. Any non-DV display will just ignore it. All DV enabled displays, streaming apps, and players can already support ICtCp.

Season 2 was mastered with DV HDR on Netflix so I'd be surprised if this doesn't have DV (though I'd think it would have had the logo on the back if that was the case).
I am tempted to buy it just for the case as display as I can't justify the purchase for the content alone as I'm sure that Season 1 will be upgraded to UHD on Netflix (though of course it shouldn't be as good as disc given bitrate realities). |

Even if it doesn't have an HDR pass at all, it's still going to look terrific. Netflix mandates a 4K-DI for their entire workflow, so provided the bitrate/encode is solid, which I'm assuming it will be, this should be an outstanding release. |

Shipments are officially in Fedex’s hands. TheSweetieMan is getting his Tuesday morning, and TauHeel05 is getting his Tuesday night. So we’ll have two reports on the quality very soon!

I can't really say this without sounding mean but, I'm really disappointed in the reactions that have been making up a bulk of this thread. A lot of you are tripping over yourselves to see what you can do with your 'old' Blu-ray copy so you can replace it with the 4K. Do yourselves a solid and don't send Target the message that what just went down with Stranger Things in regards to home video was handled appropriately. It wasn't, and this blatant double-dip so close to the Blu-ray's release is disgusting and shouldn't be rewarded. Be good consumers and vote with your wallets here.
I know, I know. "But, but... Stranger Things! In 4K!" |
