The new banner is slightly thicker I think too. Therefore the image is very slightly cropped at the top of the new one. Still way better than our UK one.

And I still prefer this to that Korean Steelbook that sold out in a heartbeat.

Christopher Nolan gave this interview with Variety that some of you might find interesting. He talks about Dunkirk and the state of movies and more:

http://variety.com/2017/film/news/ch...rg-1202607836/

I posted this in the regular Dunkirk blu-ray thread, but I am posting it here, too, as this thread seems livelier.

Very interesting interview, and it is true that intricate plots and sub-plots ar better left to television and not to movies

Are you kidding me. 5.1 only. Not even 7.1. Who's lost the plot here, Christopher Nolan or Warner Bros or both. I think it's time they get with the times. Every Reciever / Processor these days decodes Atmos or X. Totally disappointing.

Oh my God! This should be pinned somewhere:

NOLAN HAS NO INTEREST IN ANYTHING OTHER THAN 5.1! DON'T EXPECT ATMOS OR 7.1!

When he changes his mind, we'll let you know.
I was one of the first people who were pissed off that he didn't do an Atmos mix for Dunkirk because it would've been cool to hear planes and stukas from above and gun shots all over. But he didn't and that's okay. I've accepted it and moved on
It's a shame but can we move on already?

Blu-Ray.com users: "I want my favorite films to be represented exactly as they were supposed to be seen on Blu-Ray."

Also Blu-Ray.com users: "F#ck you, Nolan, give me an Atmos mix!"

LOL! I'm actually very conflicted about this whole situation. I respect his decision but I'm very curious on how Dunkirk would've sounded in Atmos.
I don't care about the old ones, but the fact that's he's stuck with 5.1 in 2017 when 7.1/Atmos became the default (Not a positive thing at all).

The trouble is, they're usually not very good 5.1 mixes either. The guy is tone deaf, I tell ya!

I have to agree. Christopher Nolan is not just colour blind, he's deaf too. The bass in his sound mixes are so damned loud, the dialogue is often muffled.

It's less a mix and more an accident

Well, Dunkirk was definitely the loudest film of recent times. For some reason bullets hitting metal sounded more loud than bombs.

Regular DCP was very typical in my opinion. The IMAX mix though...
It's funny how the louder you play it, the less you can hear the dialogue (but again it wasn't that bad - at least for my taste).
It was uncomfortable at times but I kinda loved it. The magic of a dynamic mix. Albeit a bit too dynamic.

This may sound stupid, but could Nolan done a loud mix, just to mask the loudness of those IMAX cameras?

Nolan doesn't really do dynamic, he just does LOUD and he pitches the dialogue right on the cusp of intelligibility. With something like Inception the dialogue is much clearer (it has to be, the movie revolves around its constant exposition) but IIRC Nolan said in an interview that he wanted to move away from that kind of narrative focus in his movies, that the dialogue was less important to the experience in Interstellar and now Dunkirk.

You know that sound mixes aren't done on location, right? That everything aside from the dialogue (for which scenes he used the soundproofed 5-perf cameras anyway) is basically re-recorded and remixed from scratch on a dubbing stage? You may well be joking but I had someone else on another forum start talking about how they "didn't record on the set for Atmos only 5.1" so I just wanna be sure...

No, I wasn't joking, that's why I said it might be a stupid idea.

I know it's all post-production work all done in the suite. But some people mentioned they did hear the IMAX cameras on Interstellar.

Nolan fixed that problem using 65mm on, yes.
