I can see the argument for what they're doing. Keeping the high MSRP means that the people who buy on day-one, the big fans who are willing to pay more, they pay. And the people who suddenly decide they need it immediately at some random time during the year, they pay. In both cases, they are paying the premium for the immediacy. Then you have people who are willing to pay a certain amount for it, those people have to be patient but it will show up eventually. And they keep the specific timing of the sales generally unpredictable, because it's harder to be patient when you don't know how long you're waiting.
I'm not saying it's the most customer-friendly model, but I get it, and I've been pretty lucky so far, I haven't had to pay more than I was willing to in order to get any of them (though I have wound up paying more than their ultimate nadir). Though I admit, if it's bare-bones, I probably will wait for the second sale when it's $15, rather than buying it at $20 during the first sale. |
